World War Z Inspired Dog Names

You know you love the movie, World War Z, but how can you name your dog something that not everyone will like from that movie? The trick is to give them a popular dog name in pop culture so you can have two possible places for origination. Andrew is a character from World War Z, but he is also a dog in the 1964 original film of Mary Poppins. Furthermore, it’s a prominent and robust dog name that may tick all the boxes.

Andrew plays a minor role in both Mary Poppins and World War Z, but they are both vital which is their connection to each other. In World War Z, Andrew Fassbach is a virologist played by Elyes Gabel. When the zombie plague strikes the earth, the United Nations employs young Andrew to find out the virus origin and help to stop it wiping out the planet. It’s no small task.

Andrew joins up with the main character Gerry, and some Navy SEALs and they head to a camp in South Korea. When they arrive, they find themselves under immediate attack by zombies. Andrew runs back to the plane, slips, falls, then shoots himself in the face by accident. His role is minor but significant in the fact he formed part of a team to help identify the virus.

Andrew is also a Bearded Collie in Mary Poppins – the original. He’s always in the right place at the right time, letting people know when there’s danger afoot or something is happening. Andrew is Miss Lark’s dog, who lives next door to where Mary Poppins stays at 17 Cherry Tree Lane. She lives in a mansion and is financially well off. 

Miss Lark has two dogs – Andrew and Willoughby. Andrew is a pure-bred Bearded Collie, but Willoughby is a mixed breed. Miss Lark only got Willoughby because Andrew asked for him. Mary Poppins translated Andrew’s language to English! Andrew appears prominently throughout the film, spoiled by Miss Lark who gives her dogs fur coats and boots.

His role is relevant and pivotal, like Andrew from World War Z, because he shows the viewers that Mary Poppins is something special. After all, how can she understand what he is saying?

Oddly enough, in the film and musical, Miss Lark only ever has one dog. In the movie, she has Andrew, and in the musical, she has Willoughby. Willoughby also appears in the second film.
