Warsaw Dog Names

Marie Curie was a physicist and chemist, born in Warsaw, who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity. Marie is also the name of a pregnant pup who found herself in a difficult situation. Found all alone on the porch of an empty house in Costa Rica, Marie had no food or water. Fortunately someone in the house next door noticed Marie, took photos of her and then contacted Tania Cappelluti. Cappelluti is from Germany and moved to Costa Rica several years prior in order to start a yoga retreat. It turned out that she also started Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue Costa Rica (CAARCR).

Cappelluti got some information from the neighbor; Marie’s family had moved away and left their dog behind. According to Capelluti, the pup was left sitting at the door, waiting for her people to return. Capelluti came for Marie and found her a foster home with Wynn Mackey. Fortunately, Marie was able to settle in a bit before giving birth, showing how resilient she was. Feeling safe at her foster home, Marie gave birth to seven puppies, all of whom were healthy.

Cappelluti updated followers on Facebook who were interested in Marie’s rescue and her delivery, writing, “who was wondering how Marie and her seven pups are doing? Look at this…They are doing JUST FINE”.  The pups, six boys and one girl, were able to be raised by Marie at Mackey’s home, where they had the run of the yard and got plenty of play time. The next step was finding forever homes for all 8 dogs. Surprisingly, because people often prefer puppies, Marie was the first to have a family step forward to want to bring her home. The next dog to find a forever home was Luca. Cappelluti was determined to find homes for all of the dogs, whether in the area or even out of the country, encouraging people to share the story of the pups, to see if anyone had an interest in bringing on home.

Another Marie who received media attention is Pirate Marie, who resided in a shelter for seven years, waiting for someone to take her to her forever home. Living in the Oahu SPCA in Hawaii, no one ever asked to see her, despite her being a sweet dog, likely as a result of her age at 11 and a half. While the employees did their best to make life good for Pirate Marie, she really needed her own home.

Fortunately, a military couple was stationed in Hawaii. Though she and her husband planned to wait before getting a dog, when Pirate Marie’s new mom met her and heard her story, she knew she had to bring her home. She visited Pirate Marie daily at the shelter, until the adoption went through.
