Introduction
Wander Over Yonder Inspired Dog Names In Pop Culture
You see in stark contrast to all of the other characters and creatures that appeared on the show, Buster is a pretty normal dog for the most part; he's a very friendly dog that heavily resembles a Labrador Retriever in both appearance and personality. The catch? Buster's actually a gigantic beast that's so massive, he's able to use entire planets as playthings! That's actually how Buster got his name - after playing with a number of planets as if they were tennis balls, Buster was named Worldbuster by the sentient fleas who end up living on him.
The thing about it, however, is that Buster is unaware of the havoc and destruction that he's caused; to him, those small spheres that are floating around the cosmos just look like new toys to play with, as opposed to the homes of entire civilizations and ecosystems. Buster is ultimately made aware of the impact of his actions by Wander, Sylvia, and a race of flea people over the course of the season 1 episode titled "The Ball."
The episode starts with Wander and Sylvia in the middle of doing their usual thing - travelling to new destinations, meeting new people - when they stop by a spa on the planet Ballzeria 9 (the significance of this particular planet's name.) The planet is the home of the flea people that we mentioned earlier and their colony is led by a queen named Beeza (voiced over by The Powerpuff Girls veteran Tara Strong). Everything's just peachy until the sound of chimes ring through across the entire planet. Beeza tells everyone to evacuate the entire planet as Buster is approaching. Wander tries to save the planet throughout the episode but is ultimately unable to stop Buster from chewing it to pieces. He is, however, able to find a new home for Beeza and her people on Buster's coat - ending the episode on a positive note.
Wander Over Yonder Inspired Dog Name Considerations
Another reason you might want to consider naming your dog after a character from Wander Over Yonder would be if you're a big fan of Sci-Fi's and Space Operas - chiefly Star Trek and Star Wars respectively. Wander Over Yonder is chock full of references to both of those franchises, along with references to a few others like Doctor Who and Firefly. Of particular note, both of the show's main antagonists - Lord Hater and Lord Dominator - were both heavily inspired by Darth Vader, the fallen Jedi Master turned Youngling-slaying Sith Lord. In short, if you're a Trekkie or a Star Wars fan, you may enjoy this show as well and consider a name for your pup based on popular characters such as Wander, Duke, Awesome, Major, and of course, Buster!.
