Van Helsing Inspired Dog Names

Professor Van Helsing isn't typically depicted with any dogs in his care, as he's more of a solitary sort that works best when he's working alone. However, in the Marvel Comics universe, one of Abe's great descendants decided to continue their ancestor's work in a more collaborative way. Enter Noah Van Helsing and his pet dog Razor. Razor is typically depicted as a large dog that's got an all white coat, pointy ears, and a fairly long and curved tail. Razor is Noah's stalwart canine companion, always by Van Helsing's side as the two of them battle against the forces of darkness together. Razor and Noah have both had the pleasure of befriending Blade, the Daywalker, as well as a number of other Marvel heroes who battle the occult on a regular basis.

Another prominent canine character that's associated with Dracula, and by proxy Van Helsing, mythos is much less friendly and far more terrifying than Razor. This dog's alignment could best be described as neutral, it can change its shape on a whim, and it has a mean appetite for human (and inhuman) flesh. We're speaking about none other than the ravenous hellhound familiar from Hellsing - Baskerville.  

Baskerville is a really interesting case - this fiendish beast seemingly belongs to the Hellsing franchise's iteration of Dracula - Alucard. We're hard pressed to say that Baskerville even belongs to Alucard though, as the creature very much seems to be a part of the Son of the Dragon; Baskerville typically manifests out of Alucard's body, extending from his arms and charging at foes full tilt. Baskerville possesses an ungodly amount of strength and is only unleashed by Alucard against foes that the vampire lord considers to be truly challenging. Another factor that makes Baskerville so terrifying is the fact that the demon seems to lack all semblance of a personality - it never shows any signs of being tired, scared, or happy - it always possesses the same frenzied disposition whenever it appears.

The last dog we'd like to talk about has an admittedly tenuous relationship with the Van Helsing mythos but it's nonetheless a relationship we think is noteworthy. President Abraham Lincoln once cared for a dog named Fido (the 16th President of the United States was said to have been a very forward man in life.) While there are no dogs named Fido that are directly a part of Van Helsing lore, it's been suggested by certain pundits that Bram Stoker based some of Abraham Van Helsing's traits off of Abraham Lincoln. If that's true, then Fido could be considered to be Prof. Van Helsing's dog in a very quasi-spiritual, roundabout way.
