This impeccable sense of style is what got her the position of Vice President for Mad Style’s youth apparel division. Other than her fashion prowess, it is also her kind heart and work ethic that made her such a likable character.

Another “True” who got a better ending to her once-miserable life is an abused dog who came from Ukraine. True is a mixed-breed pooch who was living a life of hell with his Ukranian owner. True’s front legs were sliced off by his previous owner, who is addicted to drugs and alcohol, for no reason while he was out digging a hole in the front yard. Ever since then, he has had to move and get around by hopping like a kangaroo. After his owner passed away due to an overdose, True was sent to an outdoor dog pound in Ukraine, a country that was so politically unstable that animal welfare was a low priority.

Fortunately, True was rescued by a Toronto-based animal group called Cause 4 Paws. The co-founder, Helen Antonio, stated that they had to get True out because there was no way that he would have made it through the winter season. Cause 4 Paws began in Greece, when the economic crisis hit and forced most families to abandon their pets because they can no longer afford to care for them. The organization has saved over 500 dogs worldwide since it started operations.

True was fostered by Erin Blaak, who also put up a fundraiser in Kensington Market to raise the $5,000 that the pooch needs for prosthetic legs. She first saw the dog’s photo in the Cause 4 Paws website and knew right away that she had to give him a home. She applied immediately and 10 days later, she received True in her home. According to Blaak, True remains to be a sweet and loving dog despite the cruelty that he experienced under his previous owner. She also says that even with the lack of legs, True loves to play and hop on and off the couch. He is also a fan of cuddling and always snuggles with Blaak.

Blaak’s fundraiser was a success and a total of $22,000 was collected. Since only $5,000 is needed for True’s legs, the extra cash will be used to help other rescue dogs under the care of Cause 4 Paws.
