Introduction
The Toy Manchester Terrier is a breed that can be traced back to Manchester, England. They can be as little as 3 pounds, and as much as 12 pounds in weight and are a feisty little bundle of fun. Prized as vermin hunters back in the age of the Industrial Revolution, they have made their way in to the homes and hearts of many today. If this is the breed you have chosen as your new addition, naming them based on their keen attitude, spunk, and loyalty should be an easy task.
Toy Manchester Terrier Names in Pop Culture
In 2015, a little Toy Manchester Terrier named Adam began to make a name for himself in the show ring. He first won an award as the #1 Toy Manchester Terrier in the Country. He is owned by Dianna Texter, and bred by Dianna Texter and Karen Cornell from the American Kennel Club Breeders of Merit. During the Lost Coast Kennel Club of California and Bahia Sur Club Kennel Club of Chula Vista in June of 2015, Adam went on to win: Back-to-Back Toy Group 3’s and Toy Group 4’s as well as Back-to-Back Bests of Variety. He’s also won the National Specialty Winner, Eukanuba Winner, and the Westminster Winner. This proud and spunky Toy Manchester Terrier was setting the bar high for dogs in the ring.
In 2006, the world sadly lost Murphy the Smurf, a 15 ½-year-old Toy Manchester Terrier. Throughout his life, he became the first of his breed to go into the agility and flyball worlds. He was also the first Toy Manchester Terrier to get an Obedience Trial Championship. He was an Agility Dog, Flyball Master, won a Silver Award of Merit, and was an Agility Trial Champion. His owners stated that Murphy was a companion and pet who was always trusting and loyal.
Another well-established Toy Manchester Terrier is Bailey. Bailey, who’s owned by Wendy Kelly and Deanna Bettle and bred by Deanna Bettle, has been said to have a bright future ahead in the conformation ring. He is also a companion to Janice and Derrick Thompson. Bailey has won the Best of Breed over Special from Junior Puppy Class. He also won the Best In Match from the Tantramar Kennel Club.
Though not a Toy member of the breed, former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt’s Manchester Terrier named Blackjack was a beloved part of the Roosevelt family. They had other animals, but the family had a special connection with Jack. He was said to be affectionate and intelligent. He knew all sort of tricks and was brought up as a high-bred gentleman. The family also stated that if he was human, he would be a dauntless fighter who never brawled with anyone.
There have been other famous individuals who have owned Toy Manchester Terriers. Patriots defensive tackle, Alan Branch, owned a Toy Manchester Terrier named Snickers. Snickers was deaf and blind. Other somewhat famous Toy Manchester Terriers include, Pepper who’s owners are Ayanah Moor and Raquel Rodriguez from the Queer and Brown podcast. Some rescue dogs, like Lady Raven of Manchester, are also helping their owners find solace.
Toy Manchester Terrier Dog Name Considerations
Though it’s not simple nor easy to gauge the personality of a new-born puppy, there are underlying personality traits that most Toy Manchester Terrier dogs seem to possess. They are a cunning, intelligent, and high-spirited breed who are always eager and willing to learn. As is seen with the Terrier breeds, the Toy Manchester Terriers are also alert, sporty, lively, faithful, and independent dogs while at the same time, devoted and discerning.
So, their names would have to match their big personalities in small bodies. They crave and demand attention, which also means that they don’t do well when they are left alone for extended periods of time. They are quite vocal breeds if they are left to themselves. Any sports that allow them to have a rally or require obedience and agility are ones that they will excel at. Toy Manchester Terriers are energetic dogs who do well when they are exercising. They can hunt small critters and vermin, as well as dig and bark. A name such as Digger would be great fit, as would Spark.
Though they may need a fair bit of training and attention, they don’t require much in terms of coat maintenance and grooming. They are very affectionate and kid-friendly dogs and have a high potential for being playful. Consider a moniker that draws attention to their personality, such as Bandit, or give them a title that draws attention to their gorgeous coat. Caraway would be a fun and fitting name.
