Introduction

Torchwood is a spin-off from the popular BBC science-fiction show, Doctor Who. The show follows Captain Jack Harkness, a time agent from the 51st century, as he leads the Cardiff office of the Torchwood Institute, an organization that was founded by Queen Victoria in order to defend Earth from supernatural or extraterrestrial threats. Jack and his team, Gwen Cooper, Owen Harper, Ianto Jones, and Toshiko Sato, track down aliens who have surfaced on this planet. The offices of Torchwood Three in Cardiff are underground and they sit directly above a rift in space and time that allows creatures and people through from different times and from different planets.

Torchwood Inspired Dog Name Considerations

There are several methods that new pet parents can utilize to find an appropriate name for their canine companion. Many people choose a name based on a specific trait that their dog either has, such as loyalty or bravery, while others select a name that honors a person or canine that they admire. Another popular choice is to use a name that is based on their favorite movie, book, or television show. Torchwood, a spin-off from the long-running British science-fiction show Doctor Who, was a very popular show in its own right, earning the BBC its highest-ever ratings until the release of Bionic Woman in 2008.

Although most of the characters in Torchwood are new to Doctor Who fans, the leader of Torchwood Three is a name that most modern Whovians will recognize almost immediately, Captain Jack Harkness. There are many characters a dog can be named after, such as the smart and savvy Gwen Cooper, Jack's second in command, the sardonic Owen Harper, Torchwood Three's medical expert, or the team's quiet but brilliant technician Toshiko Sato. You can also choose a name based on some of the alien species or unusual creatures that they encounter, such as the Weevils or their pet pterodactyl, Myfanwy.
