Introduction
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3 Dog Names in Pop Culture
Down through the decades, we have laughed until we cried and cried until we could smile again at the funny moments, the scary moments, and the touching moments, spanning doggie lives from birth to death. We connect with those four-legged actors and characters in such a way that we frequently are more deeply concerned for them than those human counterparts, frequently returning week after week for the next episode to see the dog.
Our pop culture spotlight for today is Eddie, also known as Moose, from the TV series Frasier. This popular series aired from September 16, 1993, to May 13, 2004, and was among the longest running and most famous of its kind. Eddie, a Jack Russell Terrier, was played by Moose, born in Florida in 1990 on Christmas Eve, the youngest and largest pup in his litter. His first forever home was with a couple who had difficulty handling his high energy and mischief. Some of his mischevious antics include: chasing cats, climbing trees, digging holes, barking incessantly and generally destroying things. Guilty of frequently escaping, running away and ruining property, after he pursued the neighbor’s horse and killed a cat, he found himself on a plane pointed toward Los Angeles, California. Once arriving in LA, rescued by Mathilde Halberg, a dog trainer who worked for a show-business animal company, responded well to appropriate training and focus on his natural energetic drives.
Mathilda Halberg had him approximately six months when he secured the role of Eddie in the TV series Frasier. In that role, as the faithful companion of a retired policeman Marty Crane, it wasn’t long before his ability to fix actor Kelsey Grammer with an unwavering stare became a signature sight gag on the show. Moose quickly became the darling of all the actors with whom he worked, who raved about his professionalism. He earned recognition from Kelsey Grammer when he won an Emmy for best actor in a comedy, with Kelsey holding up the award, saying “Most importantly, Moose, this is for you.”
Moose's other claims to fame include the 2000 Frankie Muniz and Kevin Bacon film "My Dog Skip," playing the role of the older “Skip,” as well as a book written by Brian Hargrove about Moose, "My Life As A Dog," and in that book, he called Moose, the “little dog that could.”
