Introduction
The Walking Dead Dog Names in Pop Culture
While we do not know a great deal about T-Dog's life prior to his coming to Atlanta, we do know that he was a courageous member of the group. Viewers are told that T-dog was once a professional football player (although we do not know what specific team for which he played). He has a deep faith in God, even after the apocalypse. As he and Carol were fighting together, and things looked particularly dismal, T-Dog told her, "This is God's plan. He'll take care of me. Always has. He's gonna help me lead you out of these tombs." T-dog was rather quiet, but he was loyal. He fought bravely alongside the other survivors.
Another very brave Theo was a Springer Spaniel mix who served in the British Army. Theo the Army Dog, along with his human handler, worked together to find and diffuse at least fourteen roadside bombs left by the Taliban. They also discovered weapons caches together. By 2012, Theo and his handler, Lance Corporal Liam Tasker, had made the most confirmed operational discoveries by a soldier and his service dog. Unfortunately, Lance Corporal Tasker was killed in action while serving in Afghanistan. Surprisingly, Theo died a few hours later. Those who knew the pair claim that Theo died of a broken heart. The two were described as "inseparable," and Tasker referred to Theo as his "best mate." This Theo was a hero indeed.
Both Theo and his handler were nominated for a British medal of honor known as the Victory Cross. This award was given to the pair posthumously. Lance Corporal Liam Tasker was only twenty-six years old at the time of his death, and Theo was only twenty-two months old.
Another somewhat famous Theo is gaining some fame on the internet as an "art dog." There is a website utilizing Theo to teach site visitors about artwork featuring dogs. Theo serves as a "guide" on the site, and he comments on the artist and the artist's work. This artistic and entertaining pup is great at educating website visitors.
The Walking Dead Dog Name Considerations
More often than not, animals are not present on The Walking Dead series episodes. However, in the prequel series, Fear the Walking Dead, one of the first season's episodes does include a German Shepherd. Sadly, this courageous pup is taken down by a walker. Generally, the animals present in the series are as vulnerable to a zombie attack as their human counterparts. It is for this reason that the writer cannot promote any one breed over another to be given a Walking Dead name.
However, any adventurous dog or any very brave dog will wear a Walking Dead moniker very well. A dog that defends his territory well, such as a Pit Bull Terrier, might benefit from a name such as "Rick" or "Michonne." Whatever The Walking Dead name that you choose for your pup, it is sure to be one-of-a-kind.
