The Ultimate Marvel Universe is harrowing for a number of reasons beyond its permanent deaths and massive changes to the norm. In the Mainstream Marvel Universe, Fenris is much more active and prominent than he's been in the Ultimate Universe. That is to say, he's been much more prominent there for the time being. In Earth 616, Fenris is one of Loki's sons. Already, the idea of a humanoid like the Norse God of Mischief siring a gargantuan wolf monster sends chills down our spines. What's worse is that Fenris has terrorized a myriad of Asgardians for what has to be centuries. The likes of Thor Odinson and the Warriors Three have typically rose up to ward the monster off but that in and of itself brings another issue to mind; beings as powerful as the Norse God of Thunder have only been able to ward Fenris off. None of them have successfully found a way to get rid of the beast for good! That may have something to do with the scariest aspect of Fenris; the beast has a destiny.

Eons ago, Fenris was prophesied to take Odin's life in an apocalyptic battle known as the Ragnarok. Thor and the other Asgardians being unable to take the wolf down only further reinforces the notion that his grim role in Ragnarok is fated, preordained, inevitable. "Oh well," one might think, "at least that's not going to happen in our world. As far as we know, Fenris hasn't even been mentioned all that much in the Ultimate Universe." Therein lies the problem though - as far as we know.

For those who don't know, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is largely based on the Ultimate Universe. Remember the giant wolf that manhandled the Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok? Guess who they were supposed to be. Moreover, the comics have been prone to adapting and borrowing elements from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's not a stretch to suggest that we may indeed see Hela and Fenris in Earth 1610 aka our homeworld.

Despite differences in the team's core line up, The Ultimates still possess many of the same qualities that make the Mainstream Avengers so great. Both teams have had Captain America as one of their leading members and both groups have helped numerous former villains reform into champions of the downtrodden. Existing in a world where death is more permanent and changes are more drastic has caused the Ultimates to differ from the Mainstream Avengers in a few ways but both teams share similar spirits. Suffice it to say that if you're a fan of the Mainstream Earth 616 Avengers, then you'll likely love the Ultimates all the same and can consider one of the character's names for your dog.

Conversely, you may end up liking the Ultimates for how different they've been from the norm. Writers and artists have been allowed to take greater risks with the sort of stories and iconography they've created for the Ultimates over the years. As a result, fans of the Ultimates have experienced all kinds of strange tales and have witnessed all kinds of strange sights. While not every liberty taken with the Ultimates has gone over well (Ultimatum is a storyline that may live on in infamy forever), one has to respect how different and varied the Ultimates' stories have been.
