The Road Runner Show Inspired Dog Names

Seriously though, the list of gags involving Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner is insane; there's the whole "Latin Name" gag, where both Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner are given silly, over the top pseudo-Latin names at the start of most episodes. There's also the "sign gag" of the pair's most favorite routines in which Wile E. Coyote usually holds up a comedic sign right before he gets absolutely wrecked. Then there's the "falling down gag" - perhaps the pair's most famous routine, in which Wile E. Coyote runs off a cliff, briefly defies the laws of physics and suspends himself in mid-air, then plummets down, smacks against the ground like someone just dropped a coin off of the Empire State Building's highest floor. In every gag, Wile E. Coyote is on the receiving end but the guy never gives up and you've got to love him for that.

The Road Runner Show is equally a testament to Wile E. Coyote's reliance as much as it is an ode to the Road Runner's ingenuity; across the show's numerous episodes, Wile E. Coyote has been blown to smithereens, flattened by trains that have to weigh a few tons, and has suffered enough damage to break every bone in his body. Moreover, he's never successfully managed to catch the Road Runner during his 60+ years in the business. This is essentially law around Warner Bros. In fact, it was actually the Coyote's creators - Chuck Jones and Michael Maltese - who decreed that the Coyote must never catch the Road Runner. 

To further emphasize the point, Chuck Jones used to refers to Wile E. Coyote as "Don Coyote." This name alludes to Don Quixote - the titular character from Miguel de Cervantes's famous book about a man who dreams of being a knight. Much like how Quixote does everything in his power to chase his dreams of knighthood, Wile E. does everything in his power to chase after the Road Runner. The difference between Quixote and the Coyote? Don Quixote actually ended changing his status quo by the end of the day.
