Introduction

Many people choose to give their pets names inspired by favorite television shows and movies, and while these are often names from shows that we watched as children or that provide some sort of nostalgia, some shows capture our imagination from the start. The Orville is a new science fiction television show from the mind of Seth McFarlane. In it, we follow Captain Ed Mercer, his first officer Kelly Grayson (who also happens to be his ex-wife), and the rest of the crew of the mid-range exploratory vessel dubbed the Orville as they explore space. While this show’s unique blend of comedy and serious social commentary didn’t impress critics, it has become a fan favorite and production has begun on a second season, although no release date has been announced as of yet.

The Orville Inspired Dog Name Considerations

Choosing a name for your dog is an important decision, for both you and your canine companion. It is something that you and your pet will be hearing and saying several times a day, most likely for many years and it can influence your dog’s training, the impression that your dog gives, and even the bond between you. Many people may choose names from their favorite shows, sometimes naming their pets for characters in the show, other times for locations, objects, or species that are significant to the show. Fans looking to name their dogs for characters of the show have plenty to choose from, from more traditional names like Ed and Kelly to more exotic names like Bortus and Heveena. Those that prefer to use place and object names may look more closely at names like Xelaya, for that little dog that is so much stronger than it looks, or Cutter, for the dog that can cut through any problem. From a dog’s point of view, a good name is one that they can clearly understand which means that everyone in the family should be able to clearly pronounce it. A name that means something to you will also help lift your mood when you say it, and while your dog may not understand the significance of their name, they will understand that their name makes you happy, and that makes your dog happy.
