Introduction

The Mentalist is a CBS American drama created by Bruno Heller that ran from September of 2008 until February 2015. It follows Patrick Jane, a charlatan with highly developed observational skills that joins the California Bureau of Investigations in pursuit of the serial killer known as Red John. When Patrick states on national television that Red Jack is an “ugly, tormented little man” the killer retaliates by killing Jane’s wife and daughter, prompting the false psychic to take his talents to the CBI in an attempt to catch and capture the man responsible for their deaths. The show earned a number of awards, including a People’s Choice Award, a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

The Mentalist Inspired Dog Name Considerations

There are many different methods that can be used when choosing a name for a new canine companion. Some individuals will name their dog in honor of someone they admire, while others will choose a name based on the individual dog’s personality or on the role that the dog is meant to fulfill in life. Another method that many people employ is selecting a name from one of their favorite books, movies, or television shows. The television show The Mentalist is a favorite for many people, as evidenced by the several nominations and one win at the People's Choice Award, and as it spanned seven seasons there are plenty of ways to find inspiration for an appropriate name. There are many great characters that can be honored; names like Patrick or Kristina work for dogs that always seem to know what you need or seem to have an uncanny sense of intuition, while names like Danny or Madeleine work well for a no-nonsense animal with a strong sense of duty. Many of the places mentioned in the show also make good names, such as Malibu or Alexandria, and names can also be found in the title of the episodes, particularly names associated with the color red, like Crimson, Fire, or Ruby.
