Introduction
The Luck of the Irish Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
It takes more than a four-leaf clover to be truly lucky like this dog named Lucky. The American English Coonhound was found by the Border Patrol in Phoenix, Arizona wandering along a desert road with a large indentation right between his eyes. They took him to a local veterinarian, who discovered that the 18-month-old pooch had actually been shot in the head and left to die.
The veterinary professional in Bisbee, Arizona took an X-ray and found a 9-millimeter bullet lodged in Lucky’s jaw where it had traveled from the entry point in his forehead, right between his eyes. Miraculously, the lucky dog, who was in high spirits and very friendly after getting some food and water, did not seem to have any lasting side effects from the bullet wound at all.
After the bullet was removed, Lucky was none the worse for wear and recovered quickly, ready for adoption within a couple of weeks. In fact, Lucky was adopted by a pawsitively furfect family after being put up for adoption by the Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL). The name Lucky was given to him by the rescue agents who found him because they thought he was really lucky to be found in this remote area of the desert where there is no traffic at all.
However, they had no idea how well that name fit the amazing pup until the X-rays showed the bullet in his jaw. So, this lucky pupster was spared two deaths of being shot and being left to die of thirst and starvation in the desert. Although the Border Patrol agents have no proof of how Lucky came to be there or how he was shot in the head, they believe the story is not a good one.
Lucky the Coonhound became pretty pawpular on the news and internet for a while in Arizona as well as around the nation when his story was shared on different news stations and websites. However, nobody ever came forward as the owner, so they do not believe he was a lost dog who was accidentally injured and ran off into the desert.
It is important to note that there were no other injuries on this pawesome pup, and he was completely healthy with no lasting effects from being left in the desert or from his bullet wound. He was also mentally healthy, which surprised the border patrol officers as well as the vet and shelter workers. Often, dogs who are abused or abandoned tend to be more withdrawn, but Lucky was outgoing and happy like nothing ever happened.
The Luck of the Irish Inspired Dog Name Considerations
There are many kinds of Irish breed dogs such as the Irish Setter, Irish Water Spaniel, Irish Glen of Imaal Terrier, Irish Wheaten Terrier, Irish Wolfhound, Kerry Beagle, and the Kerry Blue Terrier. But whether your pooch is an Irish breed, has a red coat, or is just an everyday pupster, giving your pup a "Luck of the Irish" inspired dog name is a great idea since there are a bunch of great dog names you can use in the character and cast list. You can also pick from one of the many Irish themed names that we have listed here or choose your own.
Since the leprechaun tells us there is gold at the end of the rainbow, Goldie is a great name for a gold dog like a Golden Retriever or a gold Labrador Retriever and Orla means golden princess in Irish and is also great for a gold pooch. On the other hand, if your pupster is a saint, or you just wish they were, Bridget is one of the three chief saints of Ireland and Kaylin is the virgin saint of Ireland from the 6th century. And if you want to name your pooch after his or her appearance, try Dusty for a gray dog or Curley for a curly-coated pup. Here are some of our favorite doggo names inspired by "The Luck of the Irish."
