The IT Crowd took us from the airy office spaces in Reynholm industries to the dark underground of the business. There, at the bottom of the skyscraper, hidden in a dark room that no-one visits voluntarily is the IT department. Although it is hidden from sight and no-one thinks much of it, we would argue that it is the most fun department in the entire building. That dark room is occupied by Roy and Moss, two lovable geeks who are as witty as they are awkward and are watched over by Jen, who tries her best to make things normal.

Moss

Maurice Moss tied the show together. Without Moss, there would be no IT Crowd. This is such a well-known fact that for the American spin-off, they asked the original actor to portray Moss and did not change any aspect of his personality. Moss is the classic nerdy geek and a complex character. Most of the laughs on the show came from when Moss inadvertently caused trouble for the Crowd. For example, after enduring a horrible date with a co-worker, Jen asks Moss to lie and say that she isn't in the office when he came looking. Long story short, the co-worker nearly died of fright, Jen attended her own funeral and Moss was left wondering where he went wrong.

It was hard not to love Moss, who was very clever in some ways but naive in others. Moss could build new inventions and fix almost anything that broke, but if you started talking about women or anything related to women, he tended to faint. Despite his odd personality and traits, he was still a loyal friend. Jen and Roy knew that they could count on him to help them with whatever they were going through. He took good care of his mother, even though she was the one who did all the cooking and cleaning. In many ways, Moss was too innocent for this world. That being said, Moss not only maintained that innocence, but he went through life with a witty sense of humor.

We know of another Moss who has genuine empathy and comes through for his friends in need. One night in Ottawa, Ontario a series of apartment buildings caught fire. This was during the late hours of the night and everyone was asleep by that time. The fire spread quickly, and soon three apartment buildings were ablaze. By the time the fire department showed up, it was hard to see through the smoke. Despite the severity of the fire, no-one died and only 19 people were displaced.

How was that possible? Well, a dog named Moss smelled the smoke and began barking to alert everyone to the danger. When his owners got up, they were able to spot the source of the commotion and call for help. This allowed the residents of the buildings to evacuate safely and soon the fire was extinguished. If it weren't for this clever dog, the residents of this Canadian city would have woken up to a tragedy.

The IT Crowd entertained us for 5 wonderful seasons, and then it was taken from our screens and nothing has managed to fill that void. There was an American spin-off, and the creators hoped for the same success that The Office brought in. Unfortunately, The IT Crowd and The Office are different shows and Steve Carell and Joel McHale are different comedians. Suffice to say, the American IT Crowd did not survive the avid fan base. Ever since the show ended, we have sustained ourselves on reruns or have moved on to other shows. There will always be a special place for the show in our hearts though.
