Cosmo has been a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy as well as another group of heroes known as the Knowhere Corps. He has befriended the Nova Corps, a slew of Avengers and X-Men, and a myriad of extraterrestrial beings. At first glance, Cosmo may look like an average Golden Retriever in a dog-shaped space suit. In actuality, Cosmo possesses a host of unique powers and abilities that he's used to help the helpless for decades.

Of note, Cosmo possesses immense psychic powers; via the strength of his supernaturally developed mind. Cosmo is able to levitate himself and other objects and people around him, read certain beings' minds as well as mind control others, and communicate telepathically. To be honest, we truncated a lot of the other things that Cosmo can do because it gets pretty out there. Suffice it to say that Cosmo is like a canine version of Professor X - both in terms of abilities and their shared sense of altruism and desire to help others. The circumstances that led to Cosmo gaining his impressive abilities is definitely an interesting story in and of itself. One that goes all the way back to the Space Race between the United States and USSR.

During the Cold War, a team of Russian scientists was desperate to beat their American rivals at any and every facet of science that they could. Trailing behind, the Russian scientists resolved that they'd be the first to send a man into space. Before they would risk the life of another human being, they decided to do a test launch using an animal. Cosmo was chosen for the mission and was launched into space without any say in the matter. Cosmo's ship veered off course, leading the dog to become marooned in deep space. Eventually, Cosmo landed in a place called Knowhere. There, he manifested psychic powers and began protecting the region as its chief security officer. Cosmo would meet the Guardians and the Nova Corps a few decades later, and the rest, as they say, would become history.
