Telomian Dog Names

Because the Telomian dog is very rare, even in their native Malaysia, very seldom do you see them mentioned in the news. However, Chelsia Ng, Malaysian singer, songwriter, and actress, shares her home with a Telomian dog named Lara. Lara is not simply a name; it is an acronym for Love A Rescued Animal. She also answers to LaraGogi and Bulgogi. Lara is a solid white, blue tongued ball of energy. She also suffers from extreme separation anxiety and falls to pieces when Ng is out of her sight. Lara is shy around humans, except Ng and will avoid contact with humans. Ng calls Lara her baby and her guardian. Ng and Lara’s favorite activity is to sit outside in the evening and look at the stars. In November 2017, Lara went missing near Sri Perdana in Damansara Heights in Malaysia. Ng took to Instagram and other social media platforms asking for help in locating her precious pet using the tag #larathepoochie. Lara stayed lost or missing for several days. But Ng’s fans did not let her down and they continued to give updates of sightings of Lara. After several tense and emotional days, Lara was finally found and reunited with Ng.

The Telomian dog is not as domesticated as most other purebred dog breeds. They descended from dingoes and other similar feral dogs. The Telomian was originally bred to control pests within the villages. They have an amazing jumping ability and can also climb very well. Keeping these dogs contained within a fence is difficult. Villagers found it easier to simply let the dogs come and go as they pleased. The dogs were not pets, but working members of the village. It was not until much later that people began training the Telomian to be a family companion. In Malaysia, there are still several that are feral and living in the wilderness, only coming close to people when they cannot find enough food to eat. The Telomian can become a loyal, loving pet when they are properly socialized from birth. When looking for a Telomian breeder, make sure they start the puppies’ socialization early so the puppies are comfortable with humans and will form a bond with them. The Telomian is considered to be one of the rarest dog breeds in the world. There are so few breeders and therefore, there is little known about the health and genetics of the breed. Those looking for a purebred Telomian will have difficulty locating one.
