First created all the way back in 1994, the Tekken games feature fighters from all around the world who each practice distinct martial arts styles with death-defying grace and ease. The story of the Tekken series primarily follows the Mishima family and the troubles that arise from their cursed bloodline. And even if you're not a fan, we are assuming that you at least have seen one or two of the series' main characters before, as the likes of Heihachi Mishima, Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama have been prominently featured in promotional material for the last few games in the franchise. In either case, we'd like to as a big favor of you; scan through your memories and try to think of one, just one, occasion where a dog has appeared in any of the games, comics, or movies related to the franchise. As strange as it is to imagine, the Tekken series is essentially completely devoid of any prominent canine characters despite being older than most of the people who are avid fans of it! We are sure this wasn't done out of spite or anything along those lines, there aren't any playable cats in game either, but it does place us right in between a rock and a hard place in terms of trying to think of a canine character that can serve as a solid representation of the series.

To that end, Snoop Dogg is the closest the Tekken franchise has to a prominent dog character, as of this writing. We know it's a stretch to list Snoop Dogg as Tekken's preeminent canine character, but we feel that there's some sort of logic rationale behind this decision. For starters, he's got the word "dog" in his name, so he's got that going for him. Secondly, Snoop Dogg is a huge fan of the Tekken games and he even made a song specifically for Tekken Tag Tournament 2 that was actually used in game. And third, Snoop Dogg often refers to himself as "Doggy Dog" and the guy has made an ample amount of dog puns in his songs over the years.

Barring the world famous rapper, the only other canine creature that's prominently been featured in Tekken is the wolf like monstrosity that closely follows in the footsteps of Unknown in the first Tekken Tag Tournament game. As terrifying and difficult of an opponent as that wolf like creature is, it lacks a name of its own or much of a personality. Furthermore, it's only showed up in one game so far, with there being a very small chance of us every seeing it again.

Tekken Dog Name Considerations

As with any great fighting game series, there's no shortage of lovable and memorable characters amongst Tekken's massive roster of characters. No matter who you are, there's undoubtedly a character in Tekken who will resonate with you by virtue of their fighting style, personality, or backstory; characters who are explicit homages to martial arts legends like Martial Law, Forest Law, and Lei Wulong will naturally garner fans of the icons they represent. Other characters, like virtually any member of the Mishima clan for instance, have garnered massive fan bases due to their warrior spirits and fighting styles. Indeed, any character from the Tekken universe can likely provide your dog with an excellent namesake, provided you choose carefully and consider which characters best represent your dog.

Fans of the Tekken series will also be quick to point out that the series, for all of its ruminating on brutal fist fights and cursed bloodlines, is not without its sense of humor; there are actually quite a large number of animals who play significant roles is the Tekken series, many of which even serving as playable characters over the years. The funniest thing about that, however, is the fact that there has yet to be a prominent canine character in the Tekken series despite being able to play as to two different breeds of bear, a boxing kangaroo, and a raptor!

Nevertheless, Tekken fans who own dogs with feisty personalities might want to name their pet Rodger or Alex. Fans who own dogs with brown coats or black and white coats might want to name their pet Kuma or Panda respectively.
