Superpowered pets have made multiple appearances on the small screen, and a few have even starred in their own shows. Cosmo the Spacedog, however, holds the distinction of being the first of these superpowered animals to have made not just one, but two appearances on the big screen! Cosmo made his first appearance in Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy, during a scene filled to the brim with cameo appearances around the mid point of the film. Cosmo then returned during the film's after credits scene, where he consoles Benicio Del Toro's character whilst giving film goers around the globe a better opportunity to look at his spiffy space suit. Superman's peerless pooch, Krypto The Superdog has appeared on the WB's Smallville, in episode 14 of the show's 4th season, and has starred in his own self named animated series that ran from 2005 to 2006. Krypto's name evokes the alien planet that he and Superman hail from while also letting people know exactly what he's about. This crime fighting canine virtually has all of Superman's powers and heroic morals while also having the playfulness, keen sense of smell, and loyalty that's become synonymous with dogs. Krypto's breed is completely endemic to Krypton, so he unfortunately doesn't match up with any Earthbound counterparts, but he's often depicted as resembling a spotless Dalmatian or an all white Labrador; two breeds similarly known for their feats of bravery and loyalty.

Dog owners who double as fans of cult classic films from the 1990's may also have seen the Jim Carrey ed 1994 film The Mask, which featured, amongst many zany and cartoonishly outlandish things, a Jack Russell Terrier named Milo who gained reality altering super powers after donning the eponymous mask. Milo's actor, Max McCarter, was 5 years old when he took on the role. According to Jim Carrey, Max was an excellent stage dog who "always hit his mark" and whose natural energy led the cast and crew of film to improvise a lot of material that ended up making it into the film.
