Introduction

Created all the way back in 2004, Soul Eater is a rather interesting manga/anime series that celebrates life despite being set in a world that's ruled by death. We mean that literally by the way, as the physical personification of death serves as the head of the series' most prominent organization; the Death Weapon Meister Academy. The series follows three DWMA students (Maka Albarn, Black Star, and Death The Kid) on their long and perilous journey to become proficient and bond with their sentient, shape shifting Demon Weapons (the titular Soul "Eater" Evans, Tsubaki Nakatsukasa, and the twins Elizabeth and Patricia Thompson respectively.)

Pochi

First appearing in the Soul Eater Not! spin off series, Pochi was an adorable Shiba Inu who belonged to Tsugumi Harudori. Appearances in the series are few and far between, but whenever the dog would show up the pooch garnered quite the positive response from characters in the universe as well as fans of Soul Eater Not! Pochi was known for a playful and kind demeanor as well as the unique, golden-brown color of his coat. Pochi's overall appearance, paired with the dog's winning personality, made him very approachable and well loved by Tsugumi's family.

As mentioned before, Pochi had very few appearances in the series but the dog was almost always depicted playing and interacting with Tsugumi or her family during flashback sequences. Pochi was also a very adventurous and energetic Shiba Inu, as the canine was considered to be both an indoor dog and an outdoor dog by Tsugumi's family. While Pochi's age was never expressly given in the show, the dog was known to have been very young around the beginning of Soul Eater Not! Furthermore, Pochi's gender was also never explicitly revealed during their brief time in the series, leaving fans to make educated guesses based off of the information present.

Pochi unfortunately met a tragic demise off screen in the series, much to the dismay of Tsugumi and her family. As fans of Soul Eater Not! learned on episode 10 of the anime, Pochi was accidentally struck by a car around the time Tsugumi had left home to enroll at the DWMA. Tsugumi learned of this grave incident by way of a letter that her parents had sent her, which further stated that Pochi tragically succumbed to his wounds despite the family seeking the aid of medical professionals. The news of Pochi's untimely demise particularly hit Tsugumi hard because she and Pochi had grown quite close over the years. While Pochi's death brought Tsugumi to tears, it also hardened the young girl and propelled her to become a more resolute and courageous character.

Like many of the great Shonen manga franchises out there, Soul Eater has a host of memorable characters who all have distinct personalities that make them stand out. There may not be a large number of animals in Soul Eater's cast of characters, so fans looking to name their pet after a dog in the show will have to improvise.
