Introduction
Son of the Mask Inspired Dog Names In Pop Culture
Otis is the name of the Avery family's dog. Otis is an adorable Jack Russell Terrier that had a very close relationship with his human best friend Tim Avery as well as Tim's wife, Tonya. The three of them made a happy little family in their own right, with Otis and Tim being almost inseparable to a point. Once the news came that Tonya was with child, a paradigm shift began to loom over Otis' head. When baby Alvey was born, things began to change at the Avery household - Tim and Tonya had to divert all of their attention towards their newborn son, leaving Otis in the sidelines to a degree. Initially crestfallen, the dog became somewhat resentful of Alvey and started concocting plans to get rid of what he perceived to be a threat to his family dynamic.
Otis waited for the perfect opportunity to strike. When he found it, he immediately tried to take out baby Alvey (again, the bulk of this movie is about dogs and gods contemplating infanticide). To Otis' surprise, Alvey was able to defend himself using the same kind of powers that the Mask bestows to its wearers. Unbeknownst to Tonya or Tim, Alvey was conceived while Tim was wearing the Mask (told ya this movie's weird), naturally imbuing him with its powers. Otis eventually gets a hold of the Mask himself and takes Alvey on with a more level playing field. Otis eventually learns to accept Alvey as a part of the family, Tim makes a cartoon based on his dog trying to wipe out his son, and everyone (somehow) lives happily ever after.
There are quite a few things the first Mask film became infamous for back when it first came out in 1994: introducing Cameron Diaz to the world, featuring a superhero whose powers basically equated to being a sentient Tex Avery cartoon, and the adorable dog that ends up donning the mask in the latter half of the film. That dog's name is Milo and audiences loved him so much that folks allegedly started adopting Jack Russells like they were going out of style. The dog who portrayed Milo, Max Carter, actually made waves in the 2010s when he became the world's oldest living dog. Though Max would ultimately pass away in 2013, at the incredibly ripe old age of 29, his legacy and impact on the world would live on via the roles he filled in Hollywood films like The Mask.
Son of the Mask Inspired Dog Name Considerations
Son of the Mask is one of those movies that's gained a vitriolic cult following since it was first released - many people have gone out of their way to watch the film in order to sate their curiosity, as opposed to watching it for the sake of genuine enjoyment. If you're the type of person who likes bizarre pieces of media and gets a kick out of dissecting films that didn't' do too well upon their initial release, then you may enjoy Son of the Mask (in an ironic sort of way) - possibly to the point of even naming your dog after a character from this benign franchise. Consider Alvey or Jorge for a male dog, or Tonya and Clare as tags for a female, If you are looking to be unique, choose Fringe or Edge, names based on locations in the movie. And of course, there is always Otis!
