Small Dog Names

Small dogs are very eager to please and usually have high intelligence.  This makes them perfectly fit for the silver screen.  When we consider small dogs from the movies, we often think of "pocket pooches" carried around by leading actresses.  Of all the pocket pooches in the movies, Bruiser from Legally Blonde is one of the most well-known. 

The Chihuahua had gained significant popularity by the time Legally Blonde was produced.  This breed is known to be a fiercely protective and one of the most loyal of the small dogs.  They do not back down from fights, even when outweighed and outnumbered, so it is only natural that sometimes they would be given ironic names that also demonstrate their bravery.  Bruiser is a perfect example of this in cinema.  Bruiser Woods, played by Moonie, was always by Elle Woods side in the Legally Blonde movies and though the first movie was about Elle and her tackling of Harvard Law, the sequel, Legally Blonde 2, was more about Bruiser and animal rights.  Elle Woods, a now Harvard graduate lawyer, heads to Washington D.C. to fight for animal rights and get a new Bill dubbed "The Bruiser Bill."  

So well-loved was Moonie, the dog who played Bruiser Woods, that when he passed away Reese Witherspoon, the actress who portrayed Elle Woods in both movies, paid tribute to her former co-star with a Twitter post.  

The small dog, especially the Chihuahua, was particularly popular during this time among celebrities and remains popular even today.  Pop superstar, Britney Spears has two Chihuahuas, one bearing a small reference name as well.  Britney Chihuahua's names are Bit Bit and Lucky.  Actress Demi Moore also has a beloved Chihuahua named Vida, but by far, Paris Hilton's Teacup Chihuahua is probably the most well-known of the pampered celebrity pups.  Paris's sedate little Chihuahua companion is Tinkerbell, which perfectly captures the essence of her dog's size.  

Chihuahuas are not the only dog breeds to bear names that mean small.  Pugs and French Bulldogs are also among some of the modern-day small dogs that soak up the fame.  The rise in popularity of flat faced companions among the rich and famous is not a new phenomenon.  The Pug and the French Bulldog once toppled court favorite companion dogs such as the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and other popular breeds, and their cute ugliness appears to be making a comeback as the PigBatDog, for his piggy looks and his bat-like ears..
