Introduction
Most people have never seen a Slovensky Cuvac. These majestic, pure white guardian dogs are loyal and courageous. They are ready to put themselves between you and danger to keep you safe. Bred to protect livestock from predators such as wolves and even bears, the Slovensky Cuvac has evolved into a family companion. However, they do need a strong leader in the home to keep them from taking over the household. The exact origins of this breed are unknown but most researchers agree they hail from somewhere in the Slovenia region. Therefore, why not find a name that represents their homeland? There are a number of Slovenian names that would fit your new Slovensky Cuvac perfectly.
Slovensky Cuvac Dog Names In Pop Culture
Western Wynds Slovensky Cuvacs in Austin, Texas is one of only a handful of Slovensky Cuvac breeders in the United States. Valika Cerny Koralek, or just Valika for short, was the first ever Slovensky Cuvac that they owned. Valika was bred by Dr. Anna Valterova of the Czech Republic. Buying a puppy after only seeing a photo can be scary, it is scarier when that puppy is not even in the same country. Janet Crock, owner of Western Wynds Slovensky Cuvacs, was unable to locate a puppy in the United States so she made the decision to start expanding her search to Europe. She focused on the Czech Republic and Slovenia. In November of 2007, Crock received a reply from Dr. Valterova who had a litter of seven puppies and she was willing to ship into the United States. Crock thoroughly researched Valika’s bloodlines and was pleased with her gene pool. Valika’s sire is Ivanhoe Beily Lev who has several titles attached to his name including working titles as well as conformation titles. Her dam is Orina Carova Janin Ranc who also has several titles including conformation, herding, obedience and agility.
Using a professional international shipper, Crock arranged for Valika to travel to Houston, Texas at just under 12 weeks of age. Valika traveled for two days, first by truck and then by airplane, before touching down in Houston. Crock met Valika at Lufthansa Cargo, at IAH-Houston airport. Even though Valika had a been traveling for so long, she came out of her travel crate a happy, playful puppy ready to explore her new world. The bond between Crock and Valika was almost immediate and Crock fell even deeper in love with the Slovensky Cuvac breed, prompting her to start breeding these majestic guardian dogs.
Those that know the Slovensky Cuvac breed well know that they do have a dual nature. They were bred to guard flocks and their owners with such fierceness. They are also playful and smart, making them excellent companion dogs. However, because of their size, the Slovensky Cuvac does need a strong leader in their home to teach them what acceptable and basic obedience is so they are a well-adjusted member of the family. They instinctively want to be near you and watch over you, so do not be surprised if you are tripping over them until you set some boundaries. They enjoy playing games or simply lounging around at your feet while you are watching television or working on your computer.
Slovensky Cuvac Dog Name Considerations
Since the Slovensky Cuvac is a rare breed, you may have difficulty locating a puppy within the United States. There are only a handful of breeders in North America so you may have to wait awhile before a litter is born. The wait, however, is worth it. These large, white, loyal dogs are fun to have around and they are also excellent guardians for you and your family. Once you have found a Slovensky Cuvac puppy, you are now faced with the task of finding just the right name that honors their storied past and is easy for you and everyone in your family to pronounce. Some names have strong meanings and would be good choices for this breed. Alexej means defender of mankind; this name embodies what the breed was bred to do. Vinca simply means to conquer. Henrich and Imrich mean to rule the household; something you really do not want them to do, but they will probably rule your heart. Branislava is a female name that means glorious protector; such a fitting name for a noble dog. Sarka is a maiden who helps in battle; another strong name that signifies the Slovensky Cuvacs willingness to fight to protect their family and their flock.
