Skyscraper Inspired Dog Names

The main character in the film, “Skyscraper,” is Will Sawyer played by Dwayne (the Rock) Johnson, who is a popular movie star and retired professional wrestler. Another famous Will is Willy the Pug, who played on a BBC soap opera called “EastEnders.” In fact, he was so well liked on the show that he was on there for seven years, from 1985 until 1992 when he passed away. 

In the soap opera, Willy is the beloved pet of Ethel Skinner, played by Gretchen Franklin and is rarely seen on the show without him in her arms. He was named after Ethel’s husband William who passed away. She often referred to him as “my Willy” when searching for him and would say “Where’s my Willy?” or “Has anyone seen my Willy?” The phrase became a favorite with those who watched the show. 

According to Ethel, Will was a bit mischievous sometimes and could get into some serious and not-so-serious antics. However, he was also very spoiled and to his mommy, Ethel, he could do no wrong. Many of the other characters did not like Willy because of how spoiled and greedy he was and the messes that he left on the sidewalks and in other inappropriate areas. 

In fact, the local doctor complained about him constantly, and Ethel even had to turn down two men who asked to marry her because they both said they would only marry her if she got rid of her little fur baby. One of Willy’s most memorable mishaps is when he ate all of the expensive steaks that Ethel was going to use to make steak and kidney pies. Also, on Christmas of 1990, Willy eats part of the Fowlers’ turkey. 

In 1986, Willy was kidnapped, and Detective Roy Quick sees him in a pet shop, but by the time he goes to get Ethel, Willy was sold to a man named Mr. Pavasars, who gave him the name Rasputin. However, Ethel’s neighbor and friend, Lou Beale goes and gets Willy from Pavasars, returning him to Ethel where he belongs. 

Another friend and neighbor, Dot Cotton is not a fan of Willy, and when Ethel falls and breaks her hip, Dot has to take him in while Ethel is in the hospital. Luckily, Ethel is not in the hospital very long, and soon she is back home with her canine kid. In 1992, Willy was very ill and dying of old age, so Ethel decides she has to have him put to sleep. Her neighbors in Albert Square decide to buy her a new Pug named Willy, but she won’t take him because she said her pooch was irreplaceable.
