Shintoism Dog Names

If you’re on the fence about giving your dog a dedicated Shintoism dog name, then why not look at famous dogs? You can find the perfect name that relates to a renowned pooch, but it can also connect to your religion or culture as well. Many dogs fit the bill, but it can take a bit of research.

You may like to consider a Shintoism dog name like Edo. Edo relates to a period where Buddhism and Shinto co-existed. Edo formed an integral part of Japanese history from 1603 through until 1868. During this era, Japanese was under Tokugawa shogunate rule, with strict social order, economic growth, no wars, and a stable population.

Edo is also the name of a police dog from Los Angeles, California, who won the 2016 American Humane Hero Dog Award. On New Year's day in 2016, LAPD units were in pursuit of two people who were suspects in a murder and robbery. One of the suspects exited a vehicle, carjacked someone else, and shot two occupants.

The second suspect crashed his car and ran into a house with three sons and his father. The suspect stabbed the father in the face, but he escaped. Shots rang out in the building, with the victims suspected to be the children. K9 officer Huynh and his dog Edo made entry into the house and engaged the suspect.

As they entered, the suspects fired shots through the door. Upon entry, Edo saw the two young boys shot inside but engaged the suspect who subsequently shot himself in the head. Edo pulled the suspect away from the gun. The officers then discovered that the suspect had started to shoot the children when his pistol jammed.

He cleared the jam as officers arrived and began shooting at those officers. Edo’s actions saved the lives of the K9 team, and the children survived. The suspect died.

Another Shintoism-related dog name, but one that appears in the media as well, is Kami. In Shintoism, Kami is a spiritual essence, spirit, or God. Kami also refers to a divinity that manifests itself in many forms. However, it’s also the name of a two-year-old mixed breed dog in a Korean shelter.

Kami and her siblings, Gongju and Seoli were dumped last Spring in Daegu, Korea. All the puppies were around eight weeks old at the time. She grew up with her siblings in a shelter in Daegu. Kami is a sweet and playful dog, but she can be shy around strangers. Fortunately, it didn’t take long for this small, black dog to find a new home in Toronto.
