When Scandal first aired in 2012, it instantly became a hit with viewers in the United States and in other parts of the world. Shonda Rhimes, the show’s creator, is known for producing some of the best shows (for instance, Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder) and Scandal was no exception. The show also helped build the careers of many of the actors and actresses involved, especially those in the starring roles such as Kerry Washington, who has been nominated for Best Actress in various award shows. The show not only turned Washington into a superstar, it also made Olivia Pope one of the best TV show heroines of all time. In fact, her character is often referenced in a variety of pop culture allusions.

The name Olivia also happens to be a favorite in the canine community. A remarkable dog who possesses this name is the canine actress who has been featured in several films. Olivia is a 3-year-old West Highland White Terrier who has been the talk of the town due to her scene-stealing antics in the movies she has appeared on. She first debuted in the Netflix original television series entitled Insatiable, albeit only for a minor role. She received more screen time in the 2018 film Game Night, starring Rachel McAdams and Jason Bateman. During the shooting of the film, Bateman has praised Olivia for being well-behaved and “professional”.

However, it is in Widows, a 2018 heist film, where Olivia really gained popularity and became recognized. Directed by Steve McQueen, Widows is based on the 1983 television series of the same name and includes an ensemble cast consisting of Viola Davis, Colin Farrell, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Kaluuya and Liam Neeson, to name a few. The film premiered on September 8, 2018 at the Toronto International Film Festival and was met with positive reviews from critics and audience. It was also successful commercially, grossing $76 million against a $42 million budget.

In the film, Olivia acts as the best friend and companion of Viola Davis’ character, a widow named Veronica. Throughout the movie, the relationship between Veronica and Olivia is frequently highlighted; Olivia is the only family that Veronica has and it shows. The scene where Veronica cradles the dog in her arms for possibly the last time was one of the most touching moments in the entire film and shows just how much a person can value their four-legged friend.
