Introduction
When talking about different movies that put canines in the spotlight, the Air Bud franchise is almost always part of the conversation. What started out as a film about a dog who loves to play sports and his owner has spawned numerous sequels and spin-offs. The Air Buddies is a successful spin-off series from the original Air Bud franchise. Its fourth installment is the 2009 straight-to-video Christmas-themed film entitled Santa Buddies. Much like the earlier films from this series, Santa Buddies follows the (mis)adventures of the five Buddies – Rosebud, Budderball, B-Dawg, Buddha and Mudbud – as they take a journey to the magical North Pole.
Santa Buddies Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
Santa Buddies is a 2009 family film and the fourth part of the Air Buddies franchise. In this holiday-themed movie, the adorable but naughty Buddies find themselves taking on a one-of-a-kind adventure into the North Pole as they try to bring back the true spirit of Christmas. Aside from the usual beloved Golden Retriever puppies, Santa Buddies also introduces several new characters, including the lovable Puppy Paws.
The story begins with Santa Claus and his dog, Santa Paws, at the North Pole as they observe the Christmas Icicle. Since fewer and fewer people believe in Christmas, the icicle continues to melt. Once it completely melts, Christmas will be gone for eternity. Santa Paws’ joyful son, Puppy Paws, chimes in and says that he wants Christmas to end, which causes the icicle to crack. As the crack grew, power in the North Pole shuts off and Santa’s reindeers start to weaken.
After seeing Budderball in the naughty list because he ate the turkey for Thanksgiving, Puppy Paws decides to find him as he believes he is the pup that can show him how to live life as a normal dog. Meanwhile, the Buddies have lost their enthusiasm for Christmas as well because they assume that Santa Paws is just their father, Buddy, in disguise. Additionally, they think that the “naughty list” was only made to force them to behave properly.
When Puppy Paws makes it to Fernfield, he locates Budderball and befriends the rest of the Buddies and they try to teach the North Pole pup how to live a normal life. However, Puppy Paws unintentionally gets each of the siblings in trouble, which causes tension between them. At first, the Buddies wanted him to leave but decide that they should be more compassionate towards him.
Unfortunately, Puppy Paws gets caught by Stan Cruge, a dog catcher, and is brought to the pound. In there, he meets Tiny, a puppy who is hoping for a Christmas miracle. When she starts singing, Puppy Paws learns recovers his Christmas spirit. While Puppy Paws and Tiny are stuck in the pound, the Buddies formulate a plan to rescue them with the help of Eli, one of Santa’s elves, and his dog Eddy.
After successfully saving Puppy Paws, the Christmas icicle stops melting, the spirit of Christmas returns and North Pole starts operating again. Since the reindeer are still powerless and unable to fly, Buddies and Puppy Paws volunteer to help using the skills they learned from their time dog sledding with Shasta. Tiny gets adopted by a child who wants a puppy and the Buddies part ways with Santa Paws, Puppy Paws and Santa Claus. The film ends with Mr. Cruge leading the people of Fernfield as they sing “Silent Night” in front of the town’s Christmas tree.
Santa Buddies Inspired Dog Name Considerations
Thinking of a good name for your pooch can be quite a challenge; after all, you would like to choose the most suitable name since it will be permanent. Furthermore, with so many options and name ideas, you might find yourself overwhelmed. A good strategy for limiting your choices would be to take inspiration from famous pop culture works.
Dogs are a frequent part of pop culture works, particularly in film. In fact, there are many movies that feature canines in leading roles. An ingenious way to choose a name for your furry buddy is to look at pop culture’s most renowned dogs. Santa Buddies, from the Air Buddies franchise, features a number of quirky and fun canine characters which might inspire a name idea for your own pooch. Does your furbaby love to eat a lot? You can name them after the snack-loving Budderball. Is your dog a dirt monster who loves to play and get dirty? Then the name Mudbud would be fitting instead!
You may also opt to name your dog after the other non-canine characters from the film. For instance, you can name your dog after Eli, one of Santa Claus’ elves. You can also go for the name of the cast members in case any of their names appeal to you.
