Saint Seiya Inspired Dog Names

There are a few key differences between Saint Seiya's Depiction of Cerberus and the Cerberus from Greek Myth. In this series, Cerberus is portrayed as a mindless beast that devours souls and lashes out at people wantonly. In Greek Lore, Cerberus is merely portrayed as a guard dog who's very loyal to Hades. The Cerberus of the Saint Seiya world also has a human knight who draws power from him. This man, Cerberus Dante, is actually a hero however; Dante is actually a Silver Knight who was empowered and ordained by Athena. This places Cerberus the monster and Cerberus the man in stark contention with one another - similar beings who are on the opposite sides of the battlefield. Dante's dutiful attitude actually puts him in league with Cerberus proper.

Both Cerberus Dante and the traditional version of Cerberus are characters who are largely defined by their sense of honor and duty. Cerberus Dante genuinely fights evil on a daily basis alongside his fellow Silver Knights. Cerberus from Greek Lore guards the Mediterranean version of Hell on a daily basis, helping to keep order in a realm that's teeming with deceased souls. Cerberus has also been shown to have a soft spot in many Greek stories, ultimately cooperating with famous heroes like Heracles and Orpheus on occasion. That's more than the Cerberus from Saint Seiya could attest to, as the hound tried to kill two of the series' main characters.

The Pegasus Saint and the Andromeda Saint encounter Cerberus while they're in the process of travelling through the Underworld. The hound almost immediately attacks the Knights, leading to a brief but brutal battle in which both Saints were nearly overpowered by the hound. They managed to beat the beast via a combination of teamwork and grit.
