Redesdale Terrier Dog Names

Because the Redesdale Terrier is such an intelligent, well-rounded, and easy-going dog, several of them hit the spotlight in pop culture over the years. From movie castings to TV, and even celebrity dogs, it seemed like every second dog in the spotlight was a Redesdale (Border) Terrier.

One of the many well-known ones is the 2003 film called Good Boy! starring Flynn the Border Terrier. Flynn has the lead role but has a support team consisting of various other dogs. The comedy movie comes from a book called Dogs from Outer Space which had several dog characters.

The movie follows a 12-year-old dog walker called Owen Baker. The goal is to earn enough money and responsibility to get a dog for himself. He ends up with a Border Terrier called Hubble – voiced by Matthew Broderick.

Owen soon discovers that Hubble is from outer space and that he can understand everything his dog is saying. Hubble’s real name is Canid 3942, and the powerful Great Dane leader sent him to find out whether dogs have fulfilled the leader’s destiny on earth. Hubble then has to work together with the neighborhood dogs so they can pass the “assessment” by the leader.

Throughout the movie, the dogs use several facial features, but these were digitally altered and added in by Rainmaker Studios.

While Hubble is an excellent example of a Redesdale Terrier with a name no one will forget in a hurry, there are other famous Redesdale Terriers in pop culture too. In the 2005 remake of Lassie, Lassie wasn’t the only dog to take center stage; a Redesdale Terrier also did. Toots played a notable role in the remade movie but, of course, didn’t outshine Lassie.

The movie follows Lassie’s journey back to her home after her family fell on hard times and had to sell her. She ends up 500 miles away in Scotland but doesn’t let that stop her from going home. Lassie makes it back in time for Christmas.

A Border Terrier also made a few appearances in the 1985 film Return to Oz. Toto the Terrier appeared at the beginning and end of the movie. Throughout the bulk of it, however, Dorothy had a chicken for company. The goal of having the Terrier appear only a handful of times, reviewers believe, is to keep the whole appeal of Toto and Dorothy in Kansas. The remainder of the movie follows along different lines.
