Rafeiro Do Alentejo Dog Names

Eventually, the Rafeiro Do Alentejo, also known as the Portuguese Mastiff, was used to guard the lavish estates of the rich, and was treated very well and given good food. This dog turned out to be a very large dog, and strong as well. It is the largest of all Portuguese breeds. In addition to displaying the keen instincts of a sighthound, the dog has proven time and time again to be a loyal family dog as well as an amazing sheepherder.

The Mastiff breed in general is known for their protection and intelligence. There are also other famous dogs of the Mastiff breed, such as Hooch from Turner and Hooch. Hooch was a Dogue de Bordeaux, or Mastiff of Bordeaux. This French Mastiff is the oldest of the French breeds and has the same characteristics as the Rafeiro Do Alentejo in that they are affectionate, loyal, and protective.

Turner and Hooch (1989) starred a much younger Tom Hanks as police investigator Scott Turner and his new K-9 dog, Hooch (his off the set name is Beasley). Hooch has many different antics and Turner finds himself not so sure about having the dog in his life, but realizes that Hooch is indeed a loyal companion and extremely intelligent. He ends up actually solving a murder mystery!

Another featured Mastiff in film is Lenny in Hotel for Dogs. At first, the film presents Lenny as a big, mean dog, as the tone of the music is played when the viewers are introduced to him. However, in the film, the viewers (and characters in the film) realize that Lenny is very affectionate and loyal with the kids and other dogs. 

Hotel for Dogs is about two kids who live with not-so-nice foster parents. The children, Andi and Bruce, find an old, abandoned building, and find their way inside. Inside, they find two dogs, one of them being Lenny. They are obviously strays, and the children decide to set up a refuge for other homeless dogs as well. They fix up the building and welcome many different breeds into their "hotel", and find that they face several different obstacles while trying to successfully care for the many dogs. In the end, the dogs are safe, warm, and fed thanks to these two brilliant dog-loving youngsters!
