Introduction
Quantum of Solace Inspired Dog Names In Pop Culture
Frisson was a dog that belonged to World War II Double Agent Nathalie Sergueiew. Over the years, Sergueiew has become infamous for nearly compromising a high-risk covert operation over Frisson. Back in 1937, Nathalie began working with the German Intelligence Service. She signed up with the Abwehr group and learned everything she could from them. Later on, in 1943, Nathalie headed over to Spain, bringing Frisson along with her. Sergueiew and Frisson then traveled to Madrid, met with representatives from MI5 (one of Britain's major Intelligence Organizations,) and agreed to become a Double Agent for the Allies during the Second World War. Nathalie and Frisson would have to part ways at the British Territory of Gibraltar, as MI5 had strict rules against bringing untrained dogs on missions.
While working for MI5, Nathalie did quite a bit of damage as a Double Agent. Nathalie was so good at her job that her MI5 handler Mary Sherer gave her the name Treasure. As talented as she was, Nathalie was also deemed "exceptionally temperamental and troublesome." She would lash out when she didn't get her way and was prone to giving Sherer a hard time over the smallest details. It's Nathalie's temperament that nearly caused her to compromise a delicate mission.
While working on the field, Nathalie learned that Frisson had passed away at Gibraltar. The dog didn't die due to negligence or anything of the sort - Frisson quietly passed away from natural causes. Despite being given this information, Nathalie still tried to pin her dog's death on MI5. She became irate and threatened to blow her cover as a Double Agent to the Nazis. Sherer and a small group of other MI5 officers had to go above and beyond to convince Nathalie that she'd be making a grave mistake. Cooler heads eventually prevailed, Treasure stepped down from her position, and Frisson was properly laid to rest not long afterward.
Some of you may be wondering "which highly sensitive operation did Nathalie nearly compromise?" For a long time, MI5 chose to keep that information secret. It wouldn't be until the turn of the century that the general public would gain access to a large cache of previously top-secret World War II documents. Journalists and historians combed through the cache to learn as much as they could about World War II. In the process, those same journalists and historians learned which mission Nathalie nearly compromised - Operation Overlord, the pivotal mission that allowed the Allies to gain a foothold in Europe by storming the Normandy Landings.
Quantum of Solace Inspired Dog Name Considerations
Speaking of the characters from Quantum of Solace, the film features a slew of memorable good guys and bad guys. Dominic Greene, Quantum of Solace's big baddie, differs from many of Bond's other antagonists; whereas characters from previous Bond films like Blofeld or Drax were the leaders of their respective organizations, Greene is a lower level villain who's continuously pressured by his bosses to produce results. Camille Montes, Quantum of Solace's "Bond Girl," is a headstrong woman who affects the film's plot in a higher capacity than most of the other Bond Girls before or after her. Consider naming your dog after a Quantum of Solace character if you're looking to give your pet a title that will stand out.
