Introduction
Qatar, which is officially the State of Qatar, is located in Western Asia. The country takes up the small Qatar Peninsula, which is on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. The only land border of Qatar is Saudi Arabia to its south, with the rest of the country being surrounded by the Persian Gulf. Qatar is home to about 2.6 million people and has the highest per capita income in the world. The majority of the country is a low, arid plain that is covered with sand. Rolling sand dunes that surround an inlet of the Persian Gulf can be found in the southeast part of Qatar.
Take a closer look at Qatar and you are likely to encounter a number of ideas for a unique moniker for your canine companion.
Qatar Dog Names In Pop Culture
A dog named Lars, a six year old Saluki mix, was picked up by police after being found roaming the streets of Doha in Qatar. A shy pup, he spent four years in a shelter before living for several months in a foster home. Through the assistance of Paws Rescue Qatar, a nonprofit organization in Doha that seeks to re-home abandoned animals, Lars, along with Luckita, Ziggy and Buddy, traveled to Buddy Dog Humane Society, an animal shelter in Massachusetts on Boston Post Road.
Buddy Dog Humane Society has sheltered and found homes for abandoned or stray dogs from Qatar since 2016. Sherry Sturino was responsible for facilitating the connection between the organization in Qatar and the one in Massachusetts. Ms. Sturino lived in Qatar for four years, beginning in 2012. While taking a walk, she was aghast as she encountered abandoned and abused dogs. She came across dogs that had been dumped and some who had been shot. She located Paws Rescue Qatar, which had been started by two animal rights activities, Alison Caldwell and Emily Blenkinsop. Ms. Sturino functions as a link between the shelter in Qatar and other shelters worldwide, seeking safe places for the dogs to stay while waiting for their “forever home”.
Many of the dogs that come from Qatar have been traumatized. Most of them have spent their entire lives outdoors and thus need time to adjust to spending time indoors. Initially, many pups are startled by sounds they hear inside, like the phone ringing or television playing. Cold weather is often new to many Qatar dogs.
In the case of Lars, it is noted that the pup is a bit wary of strangers and will need patience and loving care in a new home. A previous foster parent of Ziggy expressed that the pup, who had been rescued on the streets at six weeks of age, can be anxious and bark a lot.
Buddy Dog adoption counselor Gabriella Hulsey explains that there is always a honeymoon period when a dog moves into their new home. Once the dog is comfortable they will likely challenge their new owners, letting them know that there are things that they are afraid of. This can be challenging for owners, though Hulsey notes that it can be very rewarding to help a new pet through this.
At Paws in Qatar, dogs stay in a shelter before a foster parent is found to care for them. The pup’s behavipr is evaluated and the pooch must be approved before heading to another country to hopefully find their forever home.
