Introduction
Prussian Dog Names in Pop Culture
The Prussian Needle Gun was created in 1824, with rifles and bullets presented to the Prussian army, eventually becoming the service rifle. When motion pictures and television shows started to enter American homes during the 1950s; watchers could not get enough of animated dog shows. Bullet the Wonder Dog has a name that relates to the Prussian Needle Gun and in addition, is a German Shepherd. He starred on six seasons of The Roy Rogers Show. He was in over 100 episodes, and Americans were avid fans of the handsome German Shepherd. He was the perfect dog. Any time Roy needed a backup, Bullet was there. He would always sound the alarm and even chase away the bad guys. He was loyal, smart, and handsome.
Interestingly, Bullet's abilities were not all make-believe. The German Shepherd dog was highly intelligent and never hesitated to do whatever was asked. He was also fast on his feet and could quickly run along beside Roy Roger's horse trigger as they galloped across the prairie. In real life, off screen, Bullet was the beloved pet of Roy and Dale Evans. He shared his life with the couple until his death.
Trigger was the famous Palamino horse that would trot and gallop beside Bullet. The lovely cream-colored horse with the flowing white mane was also owned by Dale and Roy. At the age of 30, Trigger passed away. Roy could not stand the thought of burying his beloved horse, so he sent him to the taxidermist to be stuffed and preserved for all time. Interestingly, when Bullet passed away, Roy and Dale felt the same way about the lovely German Shepherd. They both decided to have Bullet stuffed for all time, too.
Eventually, both Bullet and Trigger would be placed on display at the Roy Rogers Museum. However, in 2010, the museum closed its doors, and all of the memorabilia was auctioned off. The well-preserved Bullet sold for $35,000. Trigger fetched $266,000 on the auction block. Both stuffed animals were purchased by an executive of Nebraska cable TV network RFD-TV. When asked what they expected to do with the stuffed animals, they stated that they hoped to one day open a museum. Dale's stuffed horse Buttermilk was also sold for $26,000.
Bullet was just one of many famous German Shepherds. The breed remains very popular for law enforcement, the military, as guard dogs, and as home companions.
Prussian Dog Name Considerations
Many people are amazed by the manners displayed by dogs in the country but German society has always been very well organized with structure in daily life. Perhaps dogs take on the personality of their owners in some regards. Interestingly, dogs in the region are often very standoffish, unlike American dogs who rarely know a stranger and run up to great everyone.
Within Germany, there are very few stray dogs. Most are valued family pets. The few dogs who do find themselves lost and residing in an animal shelter do not have to worry about euthanasia because the country has strict no-kill policies. To adopt a dog from such facilities requires that the would-be owners take a strict exam.
If you find yourself fascinated with Germany, the tribes of the Baltic states and Prussian history, then why not name your beloved furry companion a Prussian-based name? Andrei is a lovely name that means bravery. For a girl, you could choose Alina which refers to brightness.
