Introduction
Portal Inspired Dog Names In Pop Culture
Waldi the Faithful has a very intricate backstory despite being a supporting character in DOTA 2. According to his bio, Waldi was orphaned at a very young age and left for dead in the outskirts of the Nightsilver Woods. The young pup wouldn't have survived much longer on his own, as the Nightsilver Woods is positively teeming with ravenous monsters and devious bandits. Fortunately, a roving band of forest rangers rescue Waldi and take him under their wing. From that night onward, Waldi trains in the art of war.
The Daschund proves himself to be a deceptively formidable foe, despite his small stature and unassuming appearance. Tales of Waldi's ferocious attitude and unwavering loyalty to his comrades begin to spread like wildfire. The dog gains a reputation among soldiers and warriors for his courage and bravery in battle. Waldi eventually becomes so famous that various Defenders of the Ancients attempt to buy him from the rangers. To this day, Waldi can be purchased by players to help aid them in battle. Once purchased, Waldi will assist players by acting as a courier for them in the heat of battle.
Waldi the Faithful is based on the mascot for the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. Waldi was conceived by Otto "Otl" Aicher - a German designer who's famous for creating signs and logos with straightforward, geometric shapes. Waldi is the first animal mascot to be associated with the Olympic Games. The following year, Waldi was succeeded by Amik the Beaver. Waldi continues to be a prominent figure in the German art world, even in the modern era; back in 2007, Aicher's works were presented at an art show in London. Waldi was treated as one of the centerpieces of the exhibition, leaving a lasting impression on a new generation.
