Early on, the player character is unable to release Cerberus from his digitized imprisonment, and it isn't until the player character encounters a character by the name of Katsuhiko Sato that the deified dog can be unleashed. Once set free, Cerberus immediately vents his frustration with being confined to a floppy disk. Cerberus can then be fought right there on the spot or allowed to leave, where he can be fought later. Either way, once Cerberus is defeated, the guard dog of the Underworld can be added to one's party if the correct courses of action are taken.

Fans of Persona 3 will recognize Cerberus as being the Initial Persona of none other than Koromaru himself; after certain events take place in Persona 3's story, the pint-sized pup is able to summon Cerberus at will! As Koromaru's Persona, Cerberus specializes in Fire Based attacks as well as possessing particularly potent Agility stats.
