Panama Dog Names

Who would’ve thought that a Swedish YouTuber’s dog and the country of Panama could have anything in common? Probably no one, but the connection is undeniable! The adorable black Pug called Edgar Allan Pug is the beloved pet of the most subscribed YouTuber in history, PewDiePie, and he also shares his name with Édgar Crespo, a Panamanian swimmer who represents his country in the swimming competitions all over the world. Edgar Allan Pug, however, got his name after another famous Edgar, and that is the Allan Poe, a famous writer, and poet known for his exploration of dark themes.

Sweet little Edgar, the dog, was first introduced back in 2013 in an episode of Fridays with PewDiePie. The episode was called MA NEW DOGE, which is a reference to the iconic Doge meme that took the Internet by storm in the late months of 2013. He was so fabulous that he got a second introduction on PewDiePie’s girlfriend’s Marzia’s channel in a video called MEET EDGAR!

Edgar has an adoptive sister called Maya, and he is about three years old. He has a short black coat, and he is described by his owner PewDiePie as a nervous dog who needs a lot of attention. There is video evidence of Edgar trying to sabotage his owner’s YouTube video production by destroying equipment, chewing on cables, and making a mess during the recording sessions. PewDiePie often portrays Edgar with a high-pitched, annoying voice and gives him a sarcastic personality, and also yells “Deutschland!” when he wants him to calm down. He is also a part of a game called Tuber Simulation where he can be seen sitting and smiling with his tongue out.

Edgar is one of many YouTube pets that got their own 15 minutes of fame. These pets are usually featured in their owners’ videos, Instagram and blog posts, as well as other appearances on social media. Their cute faces and adorable antics are rewarded by thousands of likes, tweets, follows, and shares, and of course, thousands of followers on social media platforms. And isn’t that a strange phenomenon? Who could’ve imagined that one day we would religiously follow a dog on social media, wait for each new post to see what they are up to today and what they will do tomorrow? But that only shows just how special dogs are in our lives and how much we love and care for them, and just how much they are intertwined with our daily activities. These lovely posts are especially interesting for people who cannot keep dogs in their apartment but would love to, as they get a glimpse of the life with a lovely pup, even though they are not allowed to have one.
