Introduction
Pacific Rim Dog Names In Pop Culture
Herc and Chuck Hansen are the Australian father and son Jaeger team who pilot the dynamic, top of the line mobile weapon known as Striker Eureka. In order for a Jaeger to function properly a minimum of two, mentally compatible pilots need to meld minds with one another via a process called Drifting. As father and son, Herc and Chuck were naturally quite compatible with one another, which made them a devastating, Kaiju fighting duo. However the two gritty Aussies rarely ever displayed any emotions towards one another (possibly to prevent the risk of any emotional tensions dividing them and reducing their combat effectiveness.) So, instead of directly interacting with one another, Chuck and Herc would use Max as their intermediary.
In this vein, Max was more like the distraught child of two angry parents, unwilling relaying passive aggressive comments from one Hansen to another. While Herc and Chuck are two of the best Jaeger pilots in the first film, the difficulty they face directly showing love for one another hinders their relationship as family members. According to Chuck Hansen's actor, Robert Kazinsky, the idea for Max acting as an emotional "conduit" for the Hansen family's emotions was director Guillermo Del Toro's idea; according to Robert Kazinsky, Del Toro had been very keen on having Max take a front seat to the emotional roller coaster that was the Hansen's relationship with one another.
To that end, Max is typically around in most of the scenes that feature the Hansens; Max is first introduced in the film when Raleigh and Mako are touring the Hong Kong Shatterdome (to which Max immediately shows affection to the latter, causing him to receive a belly rub from Mako) and appears again during the scene in the mess hall, where Chuck, Herc, and Raleigh all eat lunch together. Max makes his last appearance in the first film during the final act, where an injured Herc oversees Chuck's and Stacker's final mission from the control room.
Pacific Rim Dog Name Considerations
Alternatively, you could name your pet after one of the Kaiju or Jaegers from the series if you think their names would be a good fit. Most of the Kaiju's names are based on mythological monsters or other relevant concepts. The Jaegers, on the other hand, follow a two name system where each has a first name and a last name. So consider both options if you'd like to give your pet a name with some weight.
