Introduction
Oz The Great and Powerful Dog Names in Pop Culture
Oscar is also a very popular dog name. Certainly, there are some rather famous pooches with the Oscar moniker. One such pup was an abandoned dog who fought to stay alive. For months, this unlucky pup would conceal himself in a warehouse. Oscar would only venture out after dark in search of scraps. Ironically, Oscar had been seen a number of times; yet no one attempted to help him. That is, until one anonymous rescuer took the initiative to get his hands on the dog who was literally at death's door. The rescuer was shocked to find Oscar's face covered with dirt, dried mud, and scar tissue. The nameless hero managed to get Oscar to the vet, where his skin problem was treated. In addition, Oscar was severely malnourished and dehydrated. Although the veterinarian had to go slow, Oscar was provided with regular meals, which alleviated the lack of nutrition. Furthermore, once the scar tissue was removed from his face, Oscar's fur began to grown back. Oscar has since been adopted and has fully recovered.
Another interesting Oscar is named Oscar the Grouch. Fortunately, his personality does not match up to his name! In 2012, Oscar, who lives in New York City, was featured in the Wall Street Journal to garner attention for the upcoming Westminster Dog Show. Oscar lived within walking distance of the dog show's location. He was also featured on the USA Network in commercials for the event as well as on Bloomberg Television. Oscar also possesses quite a social media network following. He has over 55,000 followers on Facebook, a fact that makes him the top show dog on the social media platform.
Oz The Great and Powerful Dog Name Considerations
Certainly, one does not even think about any incarnation of Oz without remembering Dorothy and her tirelessly loyal companion, Toto. Many have argued about the exact breed of the dog featured in the original The Wizard of Oz. Toto is definitely a Terrier, but what type is always a point of contention. Many illustrations show Toto as a Cairn Terrier. Other versions have Toto as a Border Terrier. Author Frank L. Baum never specified the exact breed of Toto, which makes any small Terrier eligible for a name inspired by Oz The Great and Powerful.
