Ottawa Dog Names

Ottawa has a claim to fame through Crusoe the Celebrity Dachshund. Known as the Weiner Dog Extraordinaire, this standout pooch got his start in the limelight through social media photos that became so popular, that his owner, Ryan Beauchesne quit his day job to manage Crusoe’s career full-time.

Ryan did not start out as a fan of small dogs and certainly did not picture himself as the manager of a celebrity Dachshund. Ryan’s girlfriend convinced him to bring a Dachshund into the family and the rest is well, doggy history. What began as posting Crusoe’s pictures on Facebook for fun has turned into a very busy lifestyle for Crusoe, Ryan and Lauren.

Crusoe has worked his way into the hearts and homes of millions beyond his Ottawa neighborhood. He has not only a Facebook account, but Twitter and Instagram feeds, too. He has over three million followers and videos views of over one billlion. Just what does this Celebrity Dachshund do? Just about everything! One of his earliest videos shows Crusoe playing hockey. Recent posts to Crusoe's very popular website are titled “The Magic Show”, Cooking With Chef Crusoe”, “Jurassic Weiner”, and “Sherlock Bones”.

But it’s not all for fame and glory; Crusoe does volunteer work, too. He took the time out of his busy schedule to cross the country as spokesdog to raise awareness for ticks and tick-borne diseases. The cross-Canada tour reached many pet-parents who knew Crusoe through his hilarious videos, opening the door to this more serious issue. 

Those were early days in Crusoe’s celeb status; Crusoe has since been on television shows like Ellen, Good Morning America, and the People’s Choice Awards where he won The Animal Star of 2018. Ryan has even created a book called Crusoe: The Adventures of Weiner Dog Extraordinaire and it’s a best seller on Amazon! The book tour took the family all across North America and they are looking into visiting Europe in Spring 2019.

Crusoe has his share of real-life woes, just like everyday dogs do, however. He recently lost his best friend and mother figure, Laffie and he had to have surgery for intervertebral disc disease ( a disease the affects the back - imagine the long back of the Dachshund and the susceptibility to injury) right before Laffie crossed the rainbow bridge. Crusoe has recovered and is very thankful for the vets who were able to help him. He enjoys spending time with his brother, Oakley, who sometimes takes the stage right alongside Crusoe. It’s clear to see that they are having a blast putting Ottawa on the map and Dachshunds into the hearts of many!
