Overview

Ollie is a direct-to-consumer dog food brand that provides “the nutrition your pup needs, just the way they like it.” Its balanced and complete, human-grade recipes were formulated by a veterinary nutritionist and feature real, whole ingredients such as chicken, beef, sweet potatoes, and cranberries. Though best known as a fresh dog food brand, Ollie recently added baked dog food to its offerings.

In this guide, we’ll take a closer look at Ollie’s dog food flavors, what we like about the brand, what other pet parents are saying about it, and more to help you decide if you should subscribe to Ollie.

Ollie Dog Food flavors

Ollie’s products initially consisted of fresh dog food only. In 2022, the company began offering baked dog food as well. Let’s check out Ollie’s fresh and baked recipes for dogs!

Ollie fresh recipes

Ollie’s fresh recipes feature whole, human-grade meat, fruit, veggies, and grains that are slow-cooked at low temperatures for maximum nutrition and flavor, then frozen. Prepared in the company’s facility in Minnesota, these vet-formulated recipes are suitable for all life stages and do not contain any fillers, by-products, or artificial flavors.

Ollie’s 5 fresh food flavors are:

  • Beef with Sweet Potatoes
  • Chicken with Carrots
  • Turkey with Blueberries
  • Lamb with Cranberries
  • Pork with Apples

Ollie baked recipes

To provide pups and pet parents with more options, Ollie introduced two baked recipes. Just like the fresh versions, the baked recipes are made with real, human-grade ingredients you can see. The meat and veggies are gently baked into bite-sized pieces in small batches to retain their nutritional value.

Ollie’s 2 baked food flavors are:

  • Beef
  • Chicken

Why Wag! likes Ollie

Here are some furbulous reasons why we like Ollie dog food!

Made with human-grade ingredients

All Ollie recipes are made with real, whole ingredients, with meat being the first one. Aside from not having added hormones, by-products, or fillers, they also do not contain corn, wheat, or soy.

Caters to your dog’s needs

When you sign up, you’ll be asked to complete a “pup quiz” to help Ollie learn more about your furbaby and recommend a meal plan based on their age, weight, breed, activity, and any allergies.

Offers different meal plans

In addition to a full fresh plan, Ollie offers a mixed bowl plan (half fresh, half baked) and a half fresh plan (to combine with your pup’s current food). While the full fresh plan is recommended, the mixed bowl plan provides more variety and the half fresh plan is the most budget-friendly.

Convenient

Ollie ships to anywhere in the contiguous United States and on a regular schedule according to your meal plan. Unless there’s a major holiday or inclement weather, you can expect to get your shipment on the same day each week.

Comes with a money-back guarantee

If your pup turns their nose up at their meals, Ollie will fully refund your starter box.

Concerns & considerations

Here are a few things to consider before you buy.

Can be expensive

It goes without saying that quality usually comes at a premium price. According to the Ollie website, the cost of your subscription will depend on your dog’s size and meal plan, but averages between $4 - $8 per day.

Needs to be refrigerated

Though your pup’s meals will stay fresh in the box until midnight on the day of delivery, it’s recommended to place them in the fridge as soon as possible. Depending on the frequency of your deliveries, Ollie dog food can take up a lot of freezer or refrigerator space.

Requires a subscription

Ollie is only available through a subscription; there is no option to buy single meals.

What pet parents say about Ollie

“Our pup Marty was a picky eater until we started feeding him food from Ollie. Now he can’t wait to gobble down his food, and actually licks the bowl clean! We changed to Ollie because of the quality ingredients and assurance that Marty’s getting the best food possible. Ollie makes it easy to order and the food always gets here on schedule. Definitely worth the price!”

“Our fur babies have so much more energy on Ollie, and their poops have never been better!”

“Not only is the food great[,] my pups gobble it up; but the service is second to none. I have called several times to get [the] feeding schedule set up and everyone I've spoken with has been really helpful! They are also flexible on shipping [schedules]!”

Ollie brand history

Ollie was founded in late 2016 by Alex Douzet, Randy Jimenez, and Gabby Slome. The brand received a lot of attention early on thanks to investor funding and media coverage. Backed by investors such as Primary Venture Partners and Lerer Hippeau Ventures, Ollie set out to disrupt the dog food space, which had been stagnant for decades.

In an interview with Forbes, the co-founders of Ollie said, “There is a major difference in daily calorie count for a dog that is 10 pounds, versus a dog that is 30 pounds — but pet food companies serve them all the same… This is why we make it part of our standard practice to ask the age, breed, and other pertinent questions to find out the precise daily calorie count for your dog. Asking these simple questions can add 20% to the life of a pet.”

Ollie started out with two flavors of fresh dog food, chicken and beef. In April 2018, just a year and a half after its launch, the company announced that it had served 5 million meals.
