Introduction
The Norwegian Buhund is gaining popularity within North America with the help of televised dog shows and a new book series based on a Buhund named Lola. This Nordic medium-sized spitz breed has a storied past of riding the seas with the Vikings. The Buhund prefers cold weather and was used as a herder and a guard dog. They are affectionate, intelligent, and very devoted to their owners. Their dense coat does require regular grooming. The Buhund is known to be an energetic, vocal companion. They communicate using their voice through barking, trilling, yodeling, and yipping. This confident breed can become destructive and a neighbor's worst nightmare with their voice when they are not given enough attention.
Norwegian Buhund Dog Names in Pop Culture
Not many dogs can actually claim that they have a book written about them, but then again not all dogs have a human dad like Elbot Carman. Hikaru Lola, a Norwegian Buhund, was rescued by Carman and has been his constant companion. Carman, a writer, illustrator, and graphic designer, developed a character for his new book series based on his beloved Lola. The first book in the series, Lola the Buhund and the Empty Sky, is set in a fictional world called Lumea. Lumea is described as a world that was thriving and magical until the skies become barren and empty. Daylight no longer exists and the land begins to wither and die because the sunlight does not shine to sustain life. Life begins to fade and slowly die as the powerful magical beings that guided Lumea had disappeared and not been helpful to the inhabitants. There is one nation or culture called Prithvi that keeps persevering in spite of the lack of sunlight. The royal family of this nation does not work for their people and instead keep to themselves, allowing their people to suffer more and more. A young Buhund, all around farm dog, named Lola, is the companion of a carpenter who is barely making ends meet. The book features young Lola setting out on a magical path that leads her on an adventure to find out why the sun has vanished and why the moon and stars also no longer shine in the sky. During Lola’s adventures, she travels with the carpenter, a musician, and a rooster through lands inhabited with monsters, evil spirits, and soldiers on a quest to stop anyone searching for the truth.
Lola’s first book can be purchased and downloaded on several different platforms including Amazon Kindle, Apple iBooks, Playster, Scribd, Kobo, and Barnes and Noble. The cover artwork was designed by Elbot Carman. The second book in the series has not been released yet, but the cover artwork was sketched by the author Carman in a program named Art Flow and then the finishing touches done in Adobe Illustrator. The second book will be titled Lola the Buhund and the Father of Discord. Carman was born in Cincinnati, Ohio but studied Digital Art and Information Technology at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. He currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia with his beloved Lola. Carman has several other ideas for more Lola the Buhund books and hopes that the series is as well received as the first book.
Norwegian Buhund Dog Name Considerations
Being a common companion of the Vikings, the Norwegian Buhund deserves a name fitting of their legendary history. There are several names with Norwegian influence that would be a good choice for your new Buhund puppy. Remember, the Norwegian Buhund is not a popular breed within the United States so finding a puppy, or even an adult, to add to your family may be difficult. There are not many that find their way into dog rescues or shelters and breeders do not always have puppies available for purchase. Once your new Buhund comes home you should spend some time getting to know them before settling on their name. When searching for a name for your new Buhund look for names that do not sound like other dogs within the family or neighborhood. You do not want dogs to be confused in the neighborhood when out walking or playing at the dog park. Pick names that pay homage to the Buhund’s past and fit their personality. For instance, Asgrim is a male name that means having leadership abilities which is fitting for a dog that excels as a herder and guardian. Then there is Reka, which is a female name that means mighty and distinguished and would be excellent for the medium-sized mighty Buhund.
