Introduction
Mudi Dog Names in Pop Culture
The Mudi is not a very well-known breed outside of Hungary and Finland, and many people who see a Mudi think it is a mixed breed rather than a registerable purebred dog. There are not many Mudi that make the news, but Rebel, or Grand Champion Nyirsegfia Renegade, made the news when he became the first Mudi to earn a Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) grand championship. Rebel also made history in 2016 when he finished his CKC conformation championship in his first weekend of showing conformation. He also earned a Best Puppy in Group and two group four placements during that weekend. Rebel was also the number one Mudi in Canada. In 2015, Rebel won two CKC Best Puppy in Groups and also won Best Mudi Puppy in Canada. At Rebel’s first appearance at the All Breed International Show, he won Best Puppy in Show. Rebel has been used on selected females and his offspring are beginning to make waves in the conformation and agility rings.
A kennel mate of Rebel’s is also making news in the conformation ring. Artica, or Champion Csodavirag Ocean, earned her CKC conformation championship in 2016. She also competed at the All Breed International Show in 2016 and won a group two placement. Artica’s sire, Champion Koves-Berci Betyar Dongo, won Best Mudi in Show at the World Dog Show hosted by Italy in 2015. While Artica has excelled in the conformation ring, she also enjoys spending time in the agility ring. There are high hopes for her offspring and Herdabout Mudi is looking forward to watching them mature.
Both Rebel and Artica are owned by Jeff and Kellie Whiteside of Herdabout Mudi and K9 Academy. The Whiteside’s started breeding and exhibiting Shetland Sheepdogs in 1999 and then fell in love with the Mudi after watching the breed in action at the FCI Agility World Competition. They began researching the breed and began looking for breeders within Europe that were doing health testing and were willing to work with them on getting dogs imported into Canada. The Whiteside’s now have a line of Mudi shining in the conformation ring and also beginning to move into performance dog sports as well. Herdabout Mudi ensures their Mudi are genetically sound before they are bred. The Whiteside’s are helping make the Mudi a more recognizable breed within the CKC. The CKC did not fully recognize the Mudi until 2018, but people could still exhibit their Mudi at conformation and performance events under a provisional status.
Mudi Dog Name Considerations
The Mudi is a medium-sized somewhat scruffy looking dog that is considered a rare breed within the United States and Canada. Deciding to add a Mudi to your family will probably be the easiest part of your journey. Finding a breeder that has puppies or even a young adult available may be the hardest part of bringing a Mudi home. Once you have located your new family member, it will be time to start searching for their perfect name. Since the Mudi originated in Hungary, you may want to start your search looking through interesting names with Hungarian origins. There are certain criteria to remember when deciding on a name. You do not want to pick a name that is common within your neighborhood. Your new Mudi puppy will become confused if they hear their name being called all through the neighborhood. Avoid choosing a name that sounds similar to any common commands that you will be using in their training. And finally, find a name that is easy for all the members of your family to pronounce. Do not settle on your Mudi puppy’s name until you spend time with them getting to know their personality. Many times, your new puppy’s antics will help you find the perfect name.
