Monsters University Inspired Dog Names

James P Sullivan, better known as Sulley, is one of the best scarers at the company in Monsters Inc, but ten years prior to that he was just an overconfident college student attending Monsters University. It took a great deal of training along with some trial and error to get to the top. Like Sulley the monster, Sully the Golden Labrador had to undergo a serious education in order to do his job. He was trained by America’s VetDogs, a non-profit company that provides and prepares service dogs for their roles assisting and caring for veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders, at no cost, as well as training facility dogs to help comfort people at military and Veterans Affairs hospitals. Sully started out being trained through the prison puppy service until he was fifteen months old, where prison inmates help teach the dog basic obedience and housebreaking as well as certain foundation commands for service dogs such as retrieve, tug, and push. 

When George H.W. Bush’s health began to decline, Sully was chosen to be his service dog. Sully provided assistance to the former president in many ways from June 2018 until Mr. Bush passed away in December of the same year. Sully was trained to help pick things up off of the floor, open doors, call for help in the case of an emergency, and many other services.  He performed his duties admirably up until the former president passed away on November 30, 2018, and accompanied his human companion’s remains to Washington D.C., and a photo of the dog sleeping next to the coffin containing the former president’s remains garnered more than 230,000 likes on Twitter in just two days. 

Sully was given a new badge with the seal of the President of the United States during a special ceremony to honor his service and then returned to America’s Vet Dogs in New York, where he was born and raised, to recover and recuperate from his loss. Dozens of people were there to meet Sully and welcome him home with a standing ovation when he landed in New York, including people who had helped to raise and train him, government officials, and veterans. According to the CEO of America’s VetDogs, John Miller, the forty-first president made his wishes regarding his beloved service dog clear, that Sully go on to help to serve other veterans, and that is exactly what is going to happen. After a short time getting a little extra TLC and brushing up on his training, Sully will be heading to Walter Reed National Military Centre in February of 2019 where he will visit veterans, helping to comfort them when they are going through the process of rehabilitation.
