Casper

When a Florida teenager battling cancer was asked what would be her dream by the Dream Fund organizers, she replied that she wanted a puppy; an American Eskimo puppy, but a miniature one, so that the dog could accompany her everywhere. Lacey was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma and found her life collapsing around her as a result. An active cheerleader, she would have to undergo 35 rounds of chemotherapy over the course of a year. Her whole family was devasted as Lacey had seemed such a healthy person who had everything going for her. The year saw her undergo treatments which changed her life and she lost touch with a lot of her friends. The family had been in contact with the Dream Fund team who decided to help her out and on a very special day in August 2013 she met with the dog breeders and Dream Fund coordinators as well as her parents, and was presented with the cutest ball of white fur - her desired little puppy!

Lacey named her puppy Casper and they bonded immediately. Casper was such an active, inquisitive puppy and the dog lifted her spirits immediately. Her parents said the best thing about Casper was that he became her constant companion and helped Lacey over her loneliness during treatment. Lacey has since beaten her cancer and is in remission with the help of her growing dog and together they face a future where they will continue to support each other.
