Gillian

Gillian doesn't look like she's been through hell and back. With her wagging tail and happy smile, you can't tell by looking at her that she was born and reared on a dog meat farm in South Korea. She lived in a tiny, squalid cage, mounded with feces and reeking of ammonia. Her ribs stuck out and her legs were weak from not being able to move around much. She'd been used as a breeder and was pregnant once again on the day she was rescued.

That was a fateful day for Gillian. Although she may have felt as if life wasn't worth living, everything was about to change for her. Gillian was about to meet Lola Webber, die-hard advocate for animals and co-founder of Change For Animals Foundation. She was there to try to convert dog meat farmers to crop-based farming but it was a near hopeless mission. Ms. Webber knew she couldn't save all the dogs in their miserable living conditions but she determined to help at least one. It was rather an underhanded deal between herself and the farmer and it cost her every cent she had with her but at the end of the day she left their with Gillian and a heart breaking for all the dogs she left behind.

Once she had Gillian, the dog had to be placed in quarantine for 30 days so she was placed with a willing elderly couple. In just a few days, though, they were calling to tell Lola that Gillian had gone into a difficult labor. She immediately called a vet who managed to save Gillian but was unable to save her 14 pups.

Gillian's next stop was in San Francisco at the SPCA. She lived there for a few months undergoing intense medical care for various health issues and learning how to be a normal dog. She began to enjoy daily walks, play sessions with other dogs, and. with the help of loads of affection and a good amount of treats, she learned to trust humans.

It turned out, however, that Gillian was going to need ongoing, perhaps expensive medical treatment. Fortunately Gentle Ben's Giant Breed Dog Rescue answered the call, so Gillian took another flight, this time to Pittsburgh. Noreen Kohl and her husband, founders of the rescue, took Gillian in and after she settled in took her for for an ultrasound. It turned out Gillian had no bladder at all. The internist reassured the Kohls that Gillian would be fine, though always a bit incontinent. Gillian is now a happy dog and living the good life. Unfortunately for other dogs in South Korea, the ending isn't as happy.

Mastiff Dog Name Considerations

A Mastiff is a giant dog whose name should reflect his big personality. He has a massive head and a black mask and comes in just three colors: fawn, apricot, or brindle. He may also have a touch of white on his chest. When grown he is regal looking and carries himself boldly, muscles rippling. You can use one of these qualities as inspiration for the name or choose something that speaks of your dog's personality..As puppies they can be clumsy clowns, and adults are known to be laid back and maybe a bit lazy.

This big beast is known for loving its family above all else. They are great with kids, but can unwittingly knock down little ones or frail adults. They won't hesitate to defend their family, so names meaning brave or courageous are often appropriate.
