Introduction

Well, this storyline is almost definitely not getting adapted into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Zombies was a limited five issue comic series that ran from December 2005 to April 2006. Robert Kirkman, Sean Phillips, and Arthur Suydam were the masterminds behind the project, with Kirkman handling the series' writing, Phillips handling the comics' art, and Suydam creating the covers for each issue. Jackal

The Jackal is a fairly obscure villain, even the mainstream Marvel Universe, but he's also the most prominent canine character featured in Marvel Zombies - at least whose featured directly. The Jackal was once an ordinary Biochemistry professor at Empire State University. As with most scientists in the comic book world, Miles would either find himself using his talents for the greater good or evil sooner or later. Miles more or less lost that coin toss and ended up on the side of evil, studying under an immensely dangerous Marvel villain known as the High Evolutionary. It was while he was studying under the Evolutionary that Miles genetically altered his body until he possessed the strength, agility, speed, and appearance of a humanoid jackal.

In the Marvel Zombies world, Miles was infected by the same virus that all of the other heroes and villains succumbed to. He still retained his personality and powers, but his mind was possessed with an uncontrollable urge to devour human flesh. By the time the story of Marvel Zombies kicks into gear, all of the humans on Earth have already been devoured by the heroes and villains of the world. Realizing that he'd go hungry forever without a solid plan, Miles threw his lot in with a zombified version of Kingpin and followed Wilson Fisk's lead.

Miles more or less acted as one of Kingpin's henchmen throughout the duration of the series, answering his master's beck and call like a glorified lapdog. Miles' background as a biochemist was put to use by Kingpin, who commissioned the Jackal to begin cloning humans. Don't cheer too soon; Kingpin also commanded Miles to clone people so the zombies could devour them like livestock!

It's not until the series nears its conclusion that the Jackal's story and character arcs reach their peak; an android named Machine Man happens upon Miles cloning tanks and starts destroying the entire facility in a bid to end the madness. The Jackal and a number of Kingpin's other henchmen try to stop Machine Man but they're all easily defeated by the superpowered android. The Jackal more or less meets an unceremonious end when all is said and done but we actually think its quite fitting; Miles always had a high opinion of himself, possessing something of a superiority complex. It wasn't until he was turned into a zombie, a lapdog, and then a pile of ash that everyone saw him to be no different than the next woman or man.

Marvel Zombies definitely isn't a family-friendly storyline by any stretch of the imagination; if you're looking for a comic that's got the tone and humor of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we urge you to look elsewhere. If you're into dark, atmospheric comics with morbid humor and gore, you've come to the right place. The world of Marvel Zombies is an alternate version of Earth - separate from but similar to the mainstream Marvel Universe (aka Earth 616) which we all know and love. This is actually why Kirkman, Phillips, and Suydam were given free rein to make the Marvel Zombies stories as crazy as they wanted to.

The stories that this troubled trio created feature all of our favorite Marvel heroes and villains: Captain America, Spider-Man, the Hulk, Magneto, Doctor Doom, and many others make up the principal cast of this miniseries. Though the vast majority of them end up getting zombified by the miniseries' conclusion, the heroes and villains still face off against one another, albeit in much grizzlier detail than normal. If you're a fan of dark comic books like Spawn, Hellboy, iZombie, Umbrella Academy, or The Walking Dead, you'll likely become a huge fan of Marvel Zombies.
