Introduction
Locke & Key Inspired Dog Names In Pop Culture
The year is 2017, and it's Memorial Day. Danielle Finley and her boyfriend are driving around Pennsylvania's rural countryside - admiring the landscape and spending some quality time together. Music is playing, the air is nice and cool - the day seems like it couldn't get much better for Danielle and her significant other. The couple spots an empty road and decides to drive through it. They don't expect to encounter anyone else on while they drive, as there aren't any nearby cities or towns for miles. Technically, Danielle and her boyfriend are right - they don't encounter any other humans during their trip. However, they do eventually encounter a strange, hairless creature laying down in the middle of the road.
Danielle and her man can't make heads or tails of their current predicament; they wonder if they've just come face to face with a supersized raccoon or if they've stumbled across the mythical Chupacabra in the flesh! Whatever this creature is, Danielle and her boyfriend agree that it isn't acting aggressively. After they examine it further, they also agree that the creature seems to be in pain — leading the couple to pull over and park their car. Cautiously, Danielle and her lover exit the vehicle and slowly approach the cryptid.
Inch by inch, the couple close the distance between themselves and the mysterious roadside creature. The beast doesn't roar or bare its teeth in response. Instead, it weekly whimpers at the couple and stares at them - asking them for help. Finally up close and personal with the creature, Danielle and her boyfriend realize that the "mystery monster" they've encountered isn't a monster at all - it's a small dog infected with mange. A split second decision now needs to be made; Danielle and her man can either step away from the situation or risk their health and aid the injured animal.
The couple follows their hearts and takes the dog to the nearest veterinarian they can find. Danielle and her boyfriend come out of the ordeal unscathed and disease free. Their canine companion, on the other hand, gradually regains his health and strength over time. Feeling sympathy for the dog, Finley and her partner decide to adopt him into their family. Danielle's boyfriend names him Phil and introduces him to the couple's two other dogs. This story ends on a happy note, with Phil putting his troubled past behind him after successfully integrating into his new family
Locke & Key Inspired Dog Name Considerations
Speaking of paying homage, Locke & Key has tons of winks and nods to other horror stories and authors; the series namedrops HP Lovecraft within its first issue, to give you a sense of perspective. It's no surprise that Locke & Key pays tribute to so many different horror stories considering Joe Hill's backstory. You see, Joe Hill is the pen name of Joseph Hillstrom King - the oldest child of Stephen and Tabitha King. But Hill has a very distinct writing style that shines through in Locke & Key. If you're a fan of Stephen King, we encourage you to give Locke & Key a try - not to compare the works of father and son, but to appreciate how different and unique their styles are from one another. After you've done that, compare characters to quirky traits you see in your dog and a name may pop out at you.
