Introduction
Officially the Principality of Liechtenstein, Liechtenstein is a doubly landlocked microstate in Central Europe. Located in the Upper Rhine valley of the European Alps and bordered by Switzerland to the west and south and Austria to the east and north, Liechtenstein has an area of 62 square miles, making it the fourth smallest European country. The majority of Liechtenstein is mountainous, resulting in the country being a destination for those interested in winter sports. As a result of southerly winds, the climate of Liechtenstein is relatively mild compared to other alpine locations.
You can turn to Liechtenstein for more than just winter adventures in the mountains; the small country is also a great place to find unique name ideas for your canine pal.
Liechtenstein Dog Names in Pop Culture
Goldlochspitz is a mountain located in Liechtenstein, in the Ratikon range of the Eastern Alps. With plenty of options for skiing and pretty hotels nearby, this mountain is popular with winter enthusiasts. The dog name “Goldie” can bring this mountain to mind and is the name of some canines that have received some media attention. Take a Golden Retriever in Texas named Goldie who was being bullied by a pack of dogs. Animal rescue workers encountered the pooch in a mobile home community where he was cowering under a trailer while being harassed by other dogs. The terrified dog had to be dragged out by workers from underneath the home where he was hiding.
Not only was Goldie very scared, he was in terrible shape physically. Goldie’s fur was matted and filthy and he had wounds on every part of his body. Fortunately, Rescue Dogs Rock NYC found him at the shelter and provided the care that the pup so badly needed. They took Goldie to an animal emergency hospital where he received stitches and antibiotics to fight infection. Goldie spent a few weeks at a veterinarian’s office in Texas as he began his long road to recovery. He was then transferred to another veterinarian’s office, this time on Long Island in New York. With a lot of love and care, Goldie went from being a nervous pup in pain to a confident and happy dog. He did, however, need a forever home.
Fortunately, an animal lover, who also had a dog and cat, adopted Goldie. Even having been through so much, Goldie embraced his new family and bonded with his fur siblings right away.
Another pup named Goldie gained attention as a part of The University of Tulsa’s Canine Ambassador Program. A Golden Retriever, Goldie was introduced in the summer of 2013 as a puppy. The idea of the Canine Ambassador Program is that it strengthens relations with the community and moves forward the commitment of the university to service and engagement. Goldie attends the school’s events to promote recruitment, retention and sports. Goldie excels at being there for current students feeling stressed or missing their own canine pals. She even participates in community activities that support animal adoption and responsible pet ownership. This busy pup also visits alumni in area retirement centers, engages in agility training and even attends meetings. The pup has achieved athletic success, qualifying for the annual North America Diving Dogs/AKS Eukanaba National Championship in 2015, where she placed 8 out of 18 dogs in her division.
Liechtenstein Dog Name Considerations
Did you have a name in mind for your new canine companion only when you brought them home, it turned out that name was not quite the fit you thought? Or perhaps you have been struggling to decide on a name in the first place and have been unable to settle upon one for your pup. Regardless of the situation, you are likely feeling frustrated. After all, you don’t want to call your pup “hey you” indefinitely.
When struggling to decide on a name for your dog, one way that you can find interesting name ideas is to think of a place that interests you or has meaning to you. Take Liechtenstein, for example. A small, mountainous country, Liechtenstein is a popular destination for those who enjoy participating in winter sports. Take yourself on a virtual tour of the country and take note of any names that stand out to you as you explore Liechtenstein’s villages, mountains, rivers, well-known people and more.
With a name from Liechtenstein, each time you call for your pup, you will be reminded of the country and the many things that it offers.
