Introduction
Les Miserables is a story about the human spirit. It is a story about ordinary people who live their lives, but do much more than ordinary people normally do. The story takes us from the lowest dredges of society and ends in the highest places. We watch a prisoner become a wealthy man, while a factory woman becomes a prostitute. A bunch of schoolboys become revolutionaries and one of them falls in love. It is a story about love, life and sacrifice. Few stories can compare, and fewer still have such a wide range of names to give your dog.
Les Miserables Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
Fans of Les Miserables were in for a treat when the 2012 film adaptation was released. The film featured some of the biggest names in Hollywood portraying their favourite characters. The movie held a lot of depth and the singing was incredible. We got to see everything come to life like we had never seen before. Although there were some parts that could have been improved, it was an amazing journey from start to finish. One of the best performances in the movie came from Anne Hathaway who portrayed the unfortunate Fantine.
Fantine is a fan favourite and Anne had big shoes to fill when she accepted the role. Fantine is a working-class girl who left her home to find a better life but was impregnated by a student. The man abandoned her and the child, so Fantine had to find a way to support them both. The entire story is sad, but you cannot help but feel for the girl. She has so many odds stacked against her, but she never gives up when trying to care for her child. In a time when many would have abandoned the child, Fantine worked hard to give her daughter a better life. We quickly learn that Fantine works at a factory owned by the kind Valjean. One day, a letter from her landlady is discovered. Her daughter, Cosette needs medicine. Her co-workers give away her secret to the foreman and she is fired. Fantine is left destitute and alone. She must find a way to support herself and her daughter. She resists the idea of becoming a prostitute, giving up her hair and some teeth for money. Eventually, she can do nothing else. She reluctantly turns to a life of prostitution. This does not go well for her and she soon dies, leaving Cosette in the care of Valjean.
The character was played so well by Hathaway that the performance earned her an Oscar. You cannot help but feel sorry for Anne as she sings Fantine’s heart-wrenching solo. You forget all that when you see her adorable dogs, Edward and Esmeralda. Edward is a lovely spaniel/terrier mix while Esmeralda is a gorgeous chocolate Labrador. Her Oscar-worthy performance broke hearts, but when she took her dogs out for a walk, most hearts were immediately healed. We are sure that Fantine’s life would have been better if she had owned such lovable pets.
Les Miserables Inspired Dog Name Considerations
The story starts off with Jean Valjean who is a prisoner in a hellish French prison. His life is full of monotony, but he is finally about to be released. We learn that he has been imprisoned for twenty years because he stole a loaf of bread for his starving nephew, which might seem like the punishment does not fit the crime. He is threatened by the Inspector Javert, who threatens to hunt him down if he does not adhere to his parole schedule. Life outside of prison is extremely difficult for Valjean and he resorts to thievery. He is saved from a life of a crime when a priest shows him kindness. Jean decides to become a better person. For the rest of the story, we follow a host of different characters who are connected in unexpected ways. We get the opportunity to see normal people do brave things. Some people defy their nature to do the right things. Others blindly follow their ideals, while others forsake the ideals of their family for something nobler. While others stay the same and are responsible for a little comic relief. Where else would you find such inspiration for a good name?
