Introduction
Kung Fu Yoga Inspired Dog Names In Pop Culture
In a 2018 Facebook post that Chan created to help usher in the Chinese New Year, Jackie praised Jones and JJ before encouraging his fans to become advocates for the ethical treatment of animals. Both Jones and JJ are older dogs who are currently experiencing a bevy of health problems, much to Chan's chagrin. Fearing that his time with his beloved dogs may be nearing its end, Chan used his New Year's post to commend Jones and JJ as well as help promote the animal rights group PETA. As of this writing, Chan's Chinese New Year Post has more than four thousand comments and more than eight thousand shares.
Jackie is another noteworthy dog with a name that's inspired by Kung Fu Yoga. He and his master, Tor Borg, lived in Germany during the early 1940s - while the Nazis were still occupying most of the country. Jackie and Tor Borg have become infamous for protesting against the Nazis in a very unorthodox yet tremendously effective fashion; Borg trained Jackie to raise one of his paws as if he were performing a Nazi salute, whenever he heard someone utter Hitler's name. Borg did this to underscore the absurdity of living under a fascist government. He wagered that the Nazis were such control freaks that they'd try to imprison a dog if they felt that it was undermining their laws and customs.
Sure enough, Borg was sanctioned by the Nazis during the mid-1940s. He spent many years fighting against the National Socialist German Workers' Party, often winning the court battles by the skin of his teeth. Despite winning his numerous courtroom battles with the Nazis, Borg still had to deal with more indirect attacks from the SS for a long time. Eventually, the Nazis backed off, leaving Borg and Jackie to live out the rest of their days in peace.
